Hey there. I use to play spiral knights exclusively on steam, but now it's just easier for me to play using the java based web portal. However, I can't seem to log onto SK, because I have no proper username. So how can a steam account play without using steam? Is there any way to convert to a proper account?

Once an account is converted you can only play via the Steam client. As already said this is a permanent change.
I'm not hugely tech. savvy, but I recently linked my SK account to Steam. One of the warnings that came with it was something along the lines of "Are you sure you want to do this? It's irreversible."
