Imagine, you're walking down a corridor, with creepy music, and there are no enemies anywhere... there are throwable objects lying about, but no actual monsters of any sort... until one of the objects rises above, and flings itself at you. The poltergeists would be either fiend or undead, and would be completely invisible. There would be no model for it anywhere, and to kill it, you'd have to hit it out of thin air. When it died, it would give off a smoke effect and make a noise before dropping things. What would it drop? Crowns, and maybe a few other materials like ghost bells and shards.
Whats so genius about this? It would require no new models into the game, and would still be completely new to fight. It would re-use the same animation as the knight throwing things, but would be able to pick up any breakable object... except a few things, like certain blocks, and trees. Most breakable objects could be programmed to be picked up by the poltergeists, and would give players a new reason to break them. If could also throw vials at the player, if it had to.
Where would it spawn? Obviously, putting something like this into the game would require tons of level design, and would be terrible... but wait, we already have objects that can be thrown lying around everywhere! It could spawn anywhere on existing levels, just add a random chance to arenas, clockwork tunnel segments, and other parts of the world. It would always have things to throw, and if it didn't, would be able to make little dust clouds form to swipe at the player. Maybe.
How would we introduce this to the players? T1 players would obviously be exempt from them- there could easily be a new rank mission added that dealt with them, as an introduction.... said rank mission would fit in right after the snarbolax, or around there. The poltergeists would not spawn in T1 at all however, and would spawn mostly after the first 2-3 depths of T2.
How rare would this be? Less rare than a love puppy. More rare than a normal monster. I'd say to expect fighting one on every tenth non-boss level in T2, and every fifth non-boss level in T3. Somewhere around that feels right to me.
Tell me I'm not the only one who thinks this would be awesome.
Who you gonna call?
