Others may have more thorough

Others may have more thorough advice but I will say drop the cobalt gear at the soonest opportunity lack of elemental defense will just get you killed in the lower part of T2. I'm sort of partial to the magic set but you can't go wrong with wolver gear.

Sword people like the calibur

Sword people like the calibur line, but I'm not a sword person so I can't speak for it.

Cobalt armor and helm aren't the best. Elemental defense is generally much more important than piercing, and they don't give any special abilities or resists, so I would say look for another armor that has elemental defense plus some added bonuses (I'm a bomber, so I went with the demo line for reducing my charge time). Keeping one half of the Cobalt set temporarily will make you more balanced, keeping some piercing defense from that piece while acquiring a new piece for elemental defense, but long term you'll almost certainly want to move away from it.

The same thing goes for the Defender. Its line isn't as bad as some people imply it is, but it offers nothing special, even at the top. You'll be better off with a shield with some status resist in addition to the damage blocking. Also elemental or shadow defense will help you in the toughest areas of the game. I like the owlite shield line, personally, but there are other viable options.

Edit to respond to above post:

Wolver gear doesn't have elemental defense. The top level, Vog Cub does, but all lower levels of that set do not. At the 2* level, Magic and Demo offer elemental defense in sets that can be carried all the way to 5*. The "break" armors also have elemental defense, but they stop at level 3.

I like the chroma/salamander

I like the chroma/salamander armor myself. I like jelly king runs, and the added damage to slimes means that i can just hack away at the guy with the rest of my team until we win.

It all comes down to your personal preference. Just pay attention to your playstyle and the kind of damage you take (indicated by the bars that come out when you get hit: I think it's red=normal, yellow=piercing, blue=elemental, purple=shadow) and adjust accordingly.

Most important: enjoy it!
