That's what it says. Video driver is updated and I easily match the requirements. Also updated Java. What could be the problem?

I'm having the same problem

I'm having the same problem on my laptop with an ATI radion express 1150, thats the only questionable part in my lappy top.

Drivers are updated

Just to ensure that "check if the drivers are updated" is not given as an answer, I just updated the drivers.

@Scribbles: That Xpress 1150

@Scribbles: That Xpress 1150 may not be fast enough to get the game running. Though I would think that you should be able to get it started, just too slow to play on. It could be a matter of a BIOS setting connected with the shared video memory. Or a driver that has features disabled by default preventing the game from running. If you're comfortable with poking around at those see if you can find anything there.

@bruinsmab: What are your specs, in particular the video card?

What I have tried.

@Poseidon: Any specifics that I could look for driver/BIOS wise?

Wouldn't know what I was looking for if I did. I have tried accelerating the 3D graphics via the catalyst control center for optimal quality instead of performance which didn't work. And also tried uninstalling java/spiral knights and then reinstalling.

One more thing, when I looked at the thread there was something about the registry which I looked into but there wasn't anything in the java folder specificed except "default" with no value. I was unsure if I'm suppose to create new stuff or just edit old stuff

Scribbles, if you have a

Scribbles, if you have a Windows machine right-click "My Computer" and select "Properties". That should reveal the installed processor and memory. In Catalyst go to Information Center -> Graphics Hardware and look for the field listing Graphics Chipset. That should help you help us figure out what's up.

Another thing to try on

Another thing to try on Windows Vista/7 is changing the shortcut to disable Aero when running the game.

@D0g: I ran a dxdiag and here

@D0g: I ran a dxdiag and here is what came up:

DirectX Version: DirectX 10
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor TK-55 (2 CPUs), ~1.8GHz
Memory: 1918MB RAM
Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6000) (6000.vista_gdr.100218-0019)

Card name: ATI Radeon Xpress 1150
Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc.
Chip type: ATI Radeon Xpress Series (0x5975)
DAC type: Internal DAC(400MHz)
Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5975&SUBSYS_01F51028&REV_00
Display Memory: 830 MB
Dedicated Memory: 127 MB
Shared Memory: 703 MB
Current Mode: 1280 x 800 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Monitor: Generic PnP Monitor
Driver Name: atiumdag.dll,atiumdva.dat,atitmmxx.dll
Driver Version: 7.14.0010.0449 (English)

@Andrezj: I will try that thank you

EDIT: When dxdiag says ~1.9GHz, is that the entire processing or just one core, it is a dual core processor.

That GHz value is each core.

That GHz value is each core. The tech to run different cores at different speeds is only in the most recent components available.

The first thing I'd recommend would be to run Windows Update and get Vista SP2 (Build 6002) as that includes a lot of efficiency and compatibility updates that you otherwise have to "get under the hood" to do. Another popular tweak to free up some system memory in Vista is to hit "windows key + r", type "services.msc" in the box that appears and click "OK". In the "Services" window that comes up search for "Tablet PC Input Service", if you're not using a tablet or touchscreen this service eats some system resources just by being enabled. To disable right click, select "Properties" and change "Statrup Type" to "disabled". You can also stop the service immediately without restart by clicking one of the buttons below the drop-box. This nets you about 100MB of freed up system memory for any task you may do.

Unfortunately getting a driver update likely won't do to much seeing as you're vid card has been end-of-lifed in terms of official support from ATI. Theoretically you may be able to get the game running still as I can get things moving on an Intel X3100 (a bottom barrel scraper of roughly equivalent power) at a windowed resolution of 1024x768 on Low detail and Compatibility mode in the game's options. You can try installing a version of Catalyst from this year since ATI went to supporting laptops directly (instead of the vendor), but not all laptops let you do that.

Okay I updated to service

Okay I updated to service pack 2 and nothing happened. I also tried turning the pc input off which didn't work either. I am wondering if there is a way to make the game start on low graphics?

Yes there is, reposted from the sticky point 5.

You will need to try and set Spiral Knights to its minimum display settings:

  1. Close Spiral Knights (if it's running).
  2. Click on the 'Start' menu and then click on 'Run'.
  3. Type in "regedit" and hit 'OK': this will bring up the Registry Editor. Warning: Please do not change anything else in the registry since it could cause severe problems.
  4. Browse through the registry tree and expand to 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\projectx'
  5. Double-click each of the below registry keys (if present) and type in the corresponding value:
    1. display_mode = 1024, 600, 32, 60
    2. fullscreen = false
    3. render_quality = /L/O/W
    4. vsync_enabled = false
  6. Close the Registry Editor and start Spiral Knights.

If for some reason one of those keys isn't there just right-click in the open space near the values -> New -> String Value. Name the string accordingly and then right-click it -> Modify and type in the value. Not there is the String "combatibility_mode" which helps on less powerful systems, try toggling it to "true". Also, the first two values in "display_mode" are horizontal and vertical resolution and can be set lower (like 800x600), however the in game interface has trouble fitting in the window at that point.
