New fan fiction!
Before anyone asks, the story will have predetermined made-up characters, with possibly a few exeptions. (Such as myself as the main character)
So, without further ado, here comes Chapter 1.
[Fan Fiction] The Archipelago
"Huh? What? Oh......"
I woke up to the sound of my com unit ringing. Today was the day. A few months earlier, Intel Agent Kora had informed me I was being deployed along with a few other Knights to an unspecified, possibly dangerous location somewhere within the Clockworks. I had to wake up early, and I hadn't set my alarm clock, figuring that my com unit would wake me when Kora contacted me. Luckily it did. I put on my Azure Guardian Armor, and fumbled around in my equipment chest until my hands met the smooth metal of my helmet. I pulled it out and put it on. Kora began her speech to me and the other knights likely recieving this message.
"Alright. I know this was a bit unexpected, but this is also important. We may be onto something big. You are being sent to a strange chain of floating islands contained within one of the Clockworks many gigantic biome-spheres. You're probably familiar with the Jigsaw Valley and the Aurora Isles. This island chain is much like this, but it is much much larger and seems to contain a huge self-sustained environment. We have codenamed it Isle 649, but the Knights already on site there generally refer to it as "The Archipelago". You are to meet at the Haven Arcade as soon as possible. That is all."
The message ended. I had no time to waste, so I pick up my Magma Driver, Glacius, and Barbarous Thorn Blade, as well as my trusty Aegis. I scampered out into the town square and hurried to to the Arcade, where I could see two of my randomly chose team members were already waiting.
One was a tall Knight wearing Ironmight Plate Armor with a Sudaruska slung over his back and an Iron Slug and Big Angry Bomb on his belt. The other was a smaller knight wearing Ash Tail armor carrying A Vile Striker and a Blackhawk.
The tall Knight looked up from his Iron Slug, which he was loading full of bullets.
"So.... you're Ghigxhalon?"
"Yes," I said.
"Hmmm..... I was told earlier that you were to be out team leader."
"Nobody ever told me that."
"Strange..... anyway, our last member probably slept in, so we're both here waiting for them to show up. I'm Yerelm, this is Lydok ."
He gestured to the other Knight, who looked up and gave a quiet grunt. Clearly the silent type.
I heard a yell from behind me.
"Sorry I'm late!!"
I saw a knight running towards us. He was wearing full Wyvern Scale armor, shield included. He carried a Faust, a Strike Needle, and Cold Iron Carver. He had bright yellow eyes.
"I'm Achyar. Sorry, I kept switching off my alarm clock..... then I realized what day it was."
"That figures. Well, Ghigxhalon here is our team leader.... I'm our guardian, and Lydok over thers is our striker."
"Alright," I said. "We all heard Kora's message. We know this is dangerous business here, especially considering the isle's close proximity to the core. I'm gonna say right now, it's not all Yerelm's job to keep us alive. We'll watch each other's backs, and work together. Now, onward to The Archipelago!"
We all stepped onto the elevator, and I pressed the descend button, unaware of the horrors we would soon face in the isles.
Can't wait for another chapter. I have a question. Do you accept application for your fanfic?
I did say in the first post there would be predetermined characters with a few expetions, but I guess you can apply if you want. You'll probably be one of the Knights already on site at the isles. I'm not going to take too many more applications however.
After a very long, boring descent, the elevator shaft opened up into a vast biome-sphere. we could see a small base camp below us, full of knights and field ration crates.
"Whoa," muttered Achyar.
"Yeah, much more impressive than I could have imagined," I said.
The elevator touched ground. A knight wearing Deadshot Armor with a Plague Needle greeted us.
"So.... you're the new squad huh?"
"Yes. We were sent here directly by Intel Agent Kora. Show us to the base camp."
"Alright. Follow me."
We hiked a short distance through rough, rocky terrain, until we reached camp.
"You can head to those crates over there to grab something to eat as well as some of the supplies you'll need when exploring."
We all walked to the crates, where a Knight with a datapad was waiting. We all grabbed canteens and food pouches, as well as some compact field ammo packs.
"I think this will come in handy too," said Lydok. He then unsheated a long machete with a curved blade. "Perfect for cutting vegetation."
Then Yerelm cut in. "Where's Achyar?"
We all heard slurping and turned around to see Achyar gorging himself on field rations. He stopped when he saw we were giving him weird looks.
"What? I didn't have breakfast!" He said through a mouthfull of food.
"Uhh.... neither did we...."
"Hey! No more goofing off!" We heard someone say.
We turned to se Feron walking towards us.
"I want you four to get aquainted with the islands, so were sending you on a scouting mission. We need you to find the bridge leadingto the next island over. We searched the whole coast, and we can't find the blasted thing."
"Ever considered that it might be just that? Blasted?" piped in Achyar.
"Hmmm.... maybe, but we don't see any signs of Gremlin activity. Anyway, there's no time to waste. Head out to the east of the camp, ASAP!"
And east we went, off into the rainforest.
After a few hours of hiking through thick rainforest, sheer cliffs and steep ledges, we arrived at the edge of the island. It was a huge fall, and despite the fact that the bottom 30% of the sphere was filled with water, no one would ever be able to find you, should you fall. We kept our distance.
"No bridge here..... maybe some control panel or other activation mechanism?" said Achyar.
"That's what I would assume, though this place is ancient.... outdated, rusty, broken machinery in several areas.... the hexagon plates making up the inner sphere shell are falling off..... maybe the bridge is broken."
"Over here!!" yelled Lydok.
We scrambled over to where he was standing. There was a huge stone covered with blue runes depicting what appeared to be a set of steps for accoplishing some task.
"You thinking what I'm thinking?"
"That this rock is telling us how to extend the bridge? Yea," I said.
"We'd better get to work figuring this out," said Lydok.
"Hmmm.... well the first part shows an arrow.... then a statue, and some sort of keystone fitting into a slot, then the bridge activating," I said.
"Well, this way then!" yelled Achyar, running off into the jungle.
"Wait up!" We ran after him.
We came upon the statue shown on the stone. Behind it was a glowing blue metal orb.
"This looks like the place," I said.
"Yea, let's grab the stone and go..... something's off here.... everywhere in the Clockworks there's traps and monsters or constructs all over the place..... but none of that guarding the keystone?
"Let's not linger, something is definantly wrong," said Yerelm.
Achyar swiped the keystone off the stand, and we began so run back to the path, when the ground began to shake, and giant stone walls rose up from fissures in the ground, closing off the whole area.
"..... this is exactly the sort of thing I thought would happen...." said Lydok nervously.
Just then, the trees started to bend and shift, gears started turning as ancient beings awoke from their seemingly eternal slumber.
"Lumbers!!!"
But that was the least of our worries.
The statue began to crack, and the outer metal shell melted into glowing lava and flowed slowly off of the statue into the cracks that were opening up in the ground at an alarming rate, revealing a grotesque construct underneath.
It was untouched by time, having been incased in metal for centuries. It had six eyes that were constantly rotating and flashing purple-red. One of its arms was a stone shield, and on the other it wore a glowing silver gauntlet covered in runes similar to the ones on the rock, expet these were a random pattern. The statue's legs had completely crumpled away, revealing some sort of levitation device as the construct's lower body.
"W-what is THAT?!" said Achyar, terrified.
"I don't know," said Yerelm, "but it chose the wrong Knight to mess with.
"Don't be reckless, we don't know what this thing is capable of," I said.
"We have to destroy it either way...... might as well get it over with."
"True."
Yerelm fired a charged Iron Slug shot right at the construct's head, blowing out one of it's eyes. He didn't even flinch from the recoil, which was amazing, especially considering he was holding it in one hand.
The construct sent several targeting lasers out of it's remaining 5 eyes, and seconds laters several chain explosion tore towards us.
Yerelm blocked them with his Ironmight shield, causing the to fly in all directions, some even being returned to their sender. The robot was EMP'd by one of its one blasts and fell on the ground, temperarily disabled.
We unleashed our best attacks on the fallen android, breaking it's sheild arm, and damaging the levitation device. The construct, smoking in multiple places, crawled back up into an upright position, raised its remaining arm, and sent Lydok flying back into the wall, knocking him unconcious.
I fired a barrage of napalm orbs from the Firo Driver, setting the construct on fire. It let out an unearthly shriek.
It was in it's death throes. Achyar and I fired off several more shots to distract it while Yerelm charged his Sudaruska.
He was finished.
It was now or never.
He swung the heavy sword back behind his head, and with a mighty roar, swung forward, cleaving the robot's head in half and ripping a huge gash in it's chest. It fell to the ground, it's red eyes dimmed and broken. Achyar walked forward, and reached his hand inside the gaping hole in the construct, and rooted around for a few seconds, before pulling out a black cylindar in a beige casing. It had blue codes flashing across it.
"Hey, that looks a lot like "The Artifact that those recruits recovered from- uhh..... ummm...."
"Razwog."
"Oh yeah! Now I remember!"
The walls began to recede, and the Lumber began standing eternally still once more. We would activate the bridge in the morning...... right now, we needed to restock on ammo an energy, and get Lydok some medical attention.
Somehow I don't want to see what awaits us on the next isle.
I'm reading it right now.
Maybe that's because there's too many fanfics in here so they are bored to read it and comment it.
It also happen to my story that I posted. There are no reader or commenter.
Good work on the fanfic. I enjoyed it. Can you make another chapter?
It had been a day since the battle at the bridge. The base camp had be packed up, and we were hiking out to the spot where we found the stone so we could insert the key orb. We walked out into the open area at the edge of the island, and Lydok (who luckily only had a few fractured bones) led us to where he found the stone. The stone itself had been destroyed in the construct's rampage, but the slot for the keystone was luckily intact. Achyar stepped forward and inserted the strange blue orb.
The ground began to rumble, and plants were uprooted as ancient power lines rose from the ground. A huge rusty metal bridge began to extend from the side of the island, and we could see the other half extend from the second island. After a few seconds the bridges connected with a mighty rumble, and they secured in place. Feron began barking orders.
"Alright! I don't know what the function is to close the bridge, so we'd better move out fast in case that there is a time limit before the bridge closes. Move move move!!"
Yerelm and and the rest of our squad set out first. Mist was coming up from the chasm below, so visibilty was minimal. We trudged on through the thick fog, until we were at the center point of the bridge. I huge locking mechanism held the sides together. The only part we could see however, was a large circle shape in the very center with a glowing blue minus across it. The symbol of energy. Feron stopped to take a head count.
"Okay.... we had 107 at the time we left camp..... let me make sure we didn't lose anyone in the fog."
He counted several times, and the result was always the same: 106.
"We're missing someone...... I wonder where they are? Let's stay here, if the just walk forward eventually they'll find us.... it's too risky to send search parties because they could get lost as well. All we can do is hope they didn't get disoriented.
I heard someone scream.
"Did you hear that?!"
"What?" said Feron
"I heard a scream!"
"You're probably just imagining it," he said, taking another head count. "Looks like we're all h- .....wait, one hundred five?!"
"Told you. Something's going on, we'd better get moving... we can't afford to lose any more kn-
Suddenly, the knight next to me shrieked as he was lifted up into the sky.
"AAAARGH!!! HELP ME!!!"
Two more were similary abducted.
"What's happening?!"
Then we saw it.
Greavers.
Thousand of the fiendish bats flew towards us out of the chasm, their wings beating in unison.
Then they were upon us.
I could hardly see through the flurry of wings around us, but I saw more and more knights being carried off.
I swung and shot blindly inyo the fog, when suddenly, I felt something garb my shoulders.
Suddenly I was being lifted away as well.
"Grab my hand, now!!"
It was Yerelm, reaching out his huge hand towards me.
But I was too far away. I knight grabbed him and pulled him away, knowing it was hopeless. All the survivors ran as fast as the could, to the other side, leaving all who had been abducted at the mercy of the Greavers.
I felt the grip on my shoulders dissapear.
I watched as my self and the other knights were all dropped into the chasm. I closed my eyes, knowing that this was probably the end.
Then we were all falling...
I might need some character applications now, seeing as all the important characters other than me are safe and sound up on the bridge. (Anyone who applies will be one of the other abducted knights)

Okay, I think that's enough applications. I sent my friend in game mail to see if they wanted to apply too, and I'll type up the next chapter as soon as she mails me back with yes/no.
Huh? Am I alive.....? My vision is blurry, but i can make out a glowing orange splotch....... my Firo Driver. I just have to crawl over and- A began to move but then wave of intense pain shot through me. Ok. Not going to work...... so I just sit here and bleed to death? Rather ironic that I was dropped into chasm and miraculously survived, yet I'm unable to do anything but sit her and watch myself die. Oh well.... I'd had many great adventures in my day.... I think I'm satisfied enough. Then I saw shapes moving in the fog. Small, bulbous shapes. Devilites? They were moving towards me. One emerged from the fog. It was carrying a bowl of luminescent green liquid. He came towards me and took off my helmet, and poured the substance in my mouth. Then, several other devilites emerged from the mist and began to lift me up and carry me. Suprisingly, I felt no pain. Was it that green stuff they gave me? I felt myself dozing off to sleep. I let myself doze off, not caring what the strange fiends had in store for me.
I heard a voice.
"Hey! You! Wake up!"
I opened my eyes. I knight in Rock Jelly armor stood in front of me.
"About time you got up..... maybe they gave you a bit to much of the painkiller."
"Who's this "they" you're reffering to?" I said.
"The Devilites, of course. We're safe now."
"Oh, so you managed to escape then."
"No."
"Than what are we waiting f-"
"The Devilites aren't going to hurt us. They brought use to their camp and gave us food and drink. I think this place is so isolated they don't have a clue what we are."
Just then, a Devilite appeared carrying a gowl of what seemed to be soup and some water. It put them down beside me and walked away to where a few other Devilites were waiting.
"What is this place?"
"We're on some sort of mini-island at the botton of the chasm. Here, eat some of this. He handed me the bowl of soup. I reluctantly took a sip, and discovered it actually tasted pretty good. I then slurped down the whole bowl. I stood up and found my wounds were mostly bandaged and healed.
"Did they get our weapons?"
"Yeah, they layed them in a pile over there, we can get them whenever we are ready to leave camp."
"Those greavers lifted up a bunch more Knights than just us. Where are they?"
"Dead, or dropped somewhere else. We can try to search and see if there are any more survivors."
"Well, let's get a move on."
"Alright, grab your weapons, and the Devilites will show us the way out.
We grabbed our weapons and canteens, and I found my dirty, warped helmet lying on the ground.
"They left you a fresh set of armor."
It appeared to be a set coat and helm made out of some local beast. It looked like a blue wolver coat with jet black shiny fur trim. I quickly put it on and adjusted the helm straps. It was a bit awkward but they got the size mostly right. Two devilites escorted us to the edge of the plateau and showed us to a series of floating stone with wooden bridges stretched out across, up to a cave on the cliffside of the second isle.
We began walking up the old bridge, and we could only hope that the next isle was no as terrible as the first.
Sorry to dissapoint but I just have to bump because I've been busy.
I wonder if Ghig will ever ask his name...lol. I also note a ton of spelling errors right in chapter 5. Other than that, good job.
Jonathan and I walked through the dark, wet cavern, along with Oliver and Tyke, two other Knights we had found hiding in the caves. They had panicked and attacked when we walked past, not see that we were friends, but we managed to calm them down. After an hour of hiking, we came upon a Devilite shrine deep within the cave. An altar sat in the middle, and pink runes were carved into the floor all around it. We hastily shuffled down the stairs to the altar. There were shards of purple crystals and black powder scattered all over the altar. In the center a Gran Faust sat in a holder. A arc of energy sparked from the sword on the altar and touched the Gran Faust I was currently carrying. Speaking of which, I wonder why the Devilites didn't take it?
Tyke scooped up some of the black power and put it in a bag. We walked up the stairs on the other side of the pit, and we saw a light up ahead. We sprinted out the exit, and we were greeted by a world of fire. We were standing in a huge volcanic crater. Steam shot out of cracks in the unstable ground, and lava lakes dominated the area. We were on a small bridge spanning a huge lava lake about a hundred feet below. We cautiously walked across the bridge, and we reached the center point. The bridge creaked loudly, and I noticed the locking mechanism was rusty and broken. I opened my mouth to warn Jonathan and the others, but it was too late.
The bridge seperated at the center point, and each side swung down and hit its corresponding cliff side with great force, leaving me and Oliver on one side, and Jonathan and Tyke on the other. The lava was melting the bridge, so we had to scale the bridge to get to the top. The bridge checkpoint on out side was beginning to come free of the rock, and we hastened our effort to get to the top.
"AAARGH!!" I yelled as lava splashed up , hitting my feet.
"We can't stop now!!" hollered Oliver, climbing ever faster.
I was breathing hard as I struggled to get my bearings again. It was a long way to the top.
And the it happened.
The bridge seperated off of the cliffside, and we were fallling towrds the lava lake. We were seconds from the mass of molten rock, when I felt something grab my shoulders. Greavers. Again.
But this time they carried us up the cliffside and dropped us at the edge of the lake, then flew away, leaving us miraculously unharmed. As they flew away into the distance, Inoticed that...... They weren't Greavers...? They were something else, something I'd never seen before. They had 3 sets of wings, long bladed claws, no legs, and their heads were covered in some sort of shell and they also had two orange compound eyes.
This place is just full of suprises.
...OOO ADD IT.
Make it sometimes replace greavers when they spawn.
Corrected some spelling errors in the latest chapter. By the way, we're on the verge of an epic battle, with the:
I'll give you a hint, a 5 letter word, starting with S and ending with M.
>:D
After parting with the strange flying creatures, we walked across the devastated and barren landscape, until we stumpled upon what appeared to be the scorched and cursed remains of a Spiral Knight camp. Several dead Knights lay strewn across the camp, and anything we could have salvaged was burnt to a crisp.
"What did this? A lava flow?" I asked
"No..... there's not any signs of lava on anything, despite how badly burnt it all is. And the corpses would have been in better condition. They're torn up, but no, not incinerated." said Oliver.
"Torn up?!" I said, alarmed.
"Yeah, look, they have gashes and slash marks all over them. They might as well be a leather couch in a room full of cats."
"Huh?"
I saw something.
I walked over to tent, still burning from whatever attacked the camp. I had seen the tip of a Vile Striker poking out of the door. I almost didn't want to see who was probably inside.
But I pushed the curtain aside.
Lydok. Lying on the floor in a pool of inky liquid, covered in burns and slash marks.
"Oh..... on no...."
"What?" Said Oliver, walking over to the tent.
He looked inside.
"What's the problem, there's a dozen of them lying around the camp...."
"He was one of my squadmates."
"Oh.... I'm sorry."
"Don't be." We heard a voice from biehind us. "It.... it was my fault."
We turned around to see a sad Yerelm, and a few other Recon Kinghts in trail.
"I should have been more careful, especially considering what happened to my squad leader on the bridge. My first real, difficult mission, and I've already lost two men."
"Two? Don't you mean one....?"
Then I realized I was wearing the Devilites strange armor, and Yerelm didn't regonize me.
I immediately pulled of my helmet off.
"What?! You're alive?!"
"You bet I am..... what are you doing here?"
"I picked up a few Knight-like heat signatures on the radar, Kora sent us to check it out."
"Kora? Here?!"
"Yeah, she's on site now. As for what happened..... they.... they just attacked out of nowhere in the night.
"What were they? Constructs?"
"No."
He gestured to the cliff side.
"Them."
Hundreds of them, climbing up the cliffside.
The Swarm.
I like how as soon as he said he needed apps, everyone starts reading it -_-
I've been doing some research.
Feedback:
=Great! Positively.
Oh God. Them. THEM.
We were doomed. There was no way we could hold off that many Swarm-corrupted creatures!
"We just have to run for it!"
"Yes, run! I will stay here and hold them off!" said Yerelm.
"There's no way you can fight them for long! You're gonna die!" I pleaded.
"I know......."
He shoved me away and turned to face the oncoming horde. I didn't know what to do or say, so I did what he wanted. I ran, with Oliver close behind, as well as Grey, the other Knight that had been with Yerelm. We turned to see Yerelm blasting away at The Swarm. He was distracting them well, but he wouldn't last much longer.
"Yerelm!! You have to come with us! NOW!"
He turned around, and we just stared at each other for a few seconds. He shook his head.
I was about to try to convince him to come one last time, but then the jagged blade of a corrupted Gremlin's blade pierced through his body, and he gave me one last look, then slumped to the ground, dead.
I fell to my knees, weeping, not sure what to do.... My squad is dead... The Swarm is quickly corrupting the islands.... I had nothing left...
I pulled out Lydok's Blackhawk, which i had brought with me to remember him, and put it to my temple. I began to slowly pull the trigger. But I stopped at the last moment. No. Yerelm's last wish was for me and the other's to stay alive. If I die here, his destruction will have been in vain. there are enough dead heroes already.
I unsheathed my Glacius and charged my firo driver. Grey readied his Acheron, and Oliver loaded six rounds into his Argent Peacemaker.
We would do what Yerelm did. But this time, we wouldn't be the ones dying.
The Digital Sum of The "Archipelago"'s Codename No. is 1. It's my favorite number. =)
Anyways... Great story! I myself am doing quite well. Ok, my time's up... Bye! Good luck in the next chapters!
Don't read this, I dare you.
Suggestion: Make everyone dead.
Jonathan lay on the ground, unconscious. 'Where am I'? He thought. Tyke was having similar thoughts. They both stood up and looked around. They were stranded on a small rock ledge, with the melted, twisted mass of the destroyed bridge above, and the unforgiving lava below. There seemed to be a path leading down to some sort of door next to the lava lake. Unsure of where else to go, they went into the suspicious doorway.
The pathway was full of strange pink and black crystal embedded in the walls. Despite the fact that they appeared to be glowing, weirldy enough, Jonathan noticed that the crystals actually seemed to make the already gloomy passageway even darker. They also seemed to emit a dark mist which clouded around the bottom half of the passageway. Jonathan was convinced he was going to plummet into an infinite void at any moment, because that's sure what the mist looked like. Tyke was staying close to the walls, probably for the same reason. At the end of the tunnel, there was a forcefield, that lead into a room with a huge sealed door in the back. There seemed to be some faded ancient text on it, in bright red.
"Is this some sort of..... warning?" mumbled Jonathan.
"Likely, said Tyke, readying his guns."
"Lets be careful....... Despite the fact that whatever was supposed to be contained in there is probably dissapeared with time, we should still be careful IF we decide to open it." said Jonathan.
"How would we open it anyway....?" responded Tyke.
"I don't know."
But the most eerie thing about the huge sealed door was the gigantic pink eye painted on the front. It was faded, but still quite legible. It probably would have been worse if the room wasn't so immaculately sealed.
"Let's try to open it."
"Why? That eye is really starting to give me the creeps." mumbled Tyke.
"Meh. Maybe it's a huge treasure vault, and the eye is just to scare away intruders, like us." said Jonathan.
"Maybe so...... it's worth a try, as crazy as it sounds." responded Tyke.
"Wait a minute.....our scientists have been deciphering this ancient language, and have translated some of it."
"And.....?" asked Tyke.
"I happen to have one of the translators issued to decipher it...... why don't we figure out what the door says?"
"Genius!" yelled Tyke.
Jonathan booted up the translator. The text on the door was faded, so only some letters were visible. Jonathan entered it in as best he could. The translator began processing the text. It said:
S--rm --ntai-m--t Fac----- 9-G-
"I can't tell what the hell it's saying..... too many characters missing." said Jonathan.
"Let's open it...... what's the worst that could happen"?
"Hmmm......... sure, why not?"
They turned the huge latch on the front of the door, and the complex internal locking mechanism began to creak open. The door lowered down into the floor.
They had no idead what they had just done.
Where is chapter 1?
