Beggars suck, so we should get a laugh out of what they do.

Begging is horrible, and is always a huge problem. For me, I barely find beggars, and I've only found one. Kinda makes me pitied because I have Penta-Heart pendants and 4* gear. Wait, that makes me lucky that I'm not targeted. But still, we NEVER like begging.

WHO'S WITH ME? Also, post your beggar stories here, we'll all get a good laugh.

We've had may threads like this in the past... and it is sad about the amount of beggars. However, SK can be a hard game to get through at first.
Anyways, I figured out a way to make beggars go away. I wear a costume they think is cute, they go "D'awww, you're costume is so cute", and then forget to ask for money. I haven't been begged in a while actually. However, when I am getting begged, I click the X button, so they can't send anymore trade requests until I delete the original. Once they become frustrated and confused about why they can't trade me, I just walk away.

Full regalia or arcane with prismatic wings always gets me random freind requests and infinite beggers.

The funniest thing you can do is open trade with them, put in 100000 crowns, and never hit accept. Just leave it and go get some cereal or something.

Beggars are usualy self-centered 6th graders that don't understand that not everyone is their pushover parent, my younger brother has gotten some of his neighbor freinds to play this game, and they beg to me IRL. Most horrible thing ever, I had to carry one out of my house basicaly. One of the stupid munchkins said he knew how to wrestle, I called him an unappreciated 3 letter word describing one whom perfers male on male intercourse, and locked my basement door.

We need a begger arena, where spiral police will abduct hobo proto's and just throw them in LD for our enjoyment. We can throw crowns at them too, get one of those big 50 crown coins and chuck it at their head for a KO. If you kill one you get your money back. King krogmo mugs all the victors at the end, so he gets profit as well. Win-win-win situation.

Heck, I wear my proto set decked out with regal accessories and crest of winter that costed me over 200k and I haven't got a single request. COME AT ME BRO

Also, I did that too, looked at him, he was disconnected. EPIC WIN

I'm lucky my sister DOESN'T play SK. She instead thinks it's stupid and crappier than Minecraft, and proceeds to play that game instead. But having people BEG YOU IRL... OHMYGODWEREGONNADIIIIIE

Begger Arena? Kill people with crowns? Watch beggars play lockdown while eating sweet treats like popcorn, nachos and cookies? MAKE IT HAPPEN OOO

I requested help from my friend in completing The Gauntlet with me, because I tried to solo it at least six times and failed on every occasion. She gladly helped me out, and after that I quickly completed all the other missions and achieved my Vanguard rank. I was so happy, until I realized that the Prestige Badge next to my name rendered my 0* beggar-deterrent costume effectively useless.

Bad behavior != open season

Begging is annoying, but so is abusively tormenting people who try it. Try being part of the solution instead: politely decline and explain that you had to work for the crowns.

Then offer a small tidbit of advice (like "is that a spur you're using? You may be better off upgrading a brandish instead"), and vanish into the mists.

Pokenuevo we mean begging for crowns IRL. Though I have had people say "I'm poor IRL and can't buy CE". Right. If you're poor IRL quit playing spiral knights and get a job, or become 18.

Thank you Luguiru.

Pauling the people who have the nerve to beg are the idiots who sell their all gear to the merchants. One of my brothers freinds used all his mist to craft frost guns and sell them to merchants. What do you think would happen to any crowns you gave them?

1. Give crowns. 2. ??? 3. Profit!

Orange: I don't advocate giving crowns to people who beg. Just don't use their rudeness as an excuse to give the player community a bad name.

And honestly, if you have absolutely no plans to use your energy that day, then spending 400 crowns to make a 2* item will net you 750 crowns for an autosell, or far more if you get lucky with a UV.

A frost gun would cost 200 crowns to make, and autosell for 300 crowns. Your brother's friend made a profit of 1k - 200 = 800 crowns per unused day of energy, vs 1500 - 800 = 700 crowns profit if you'd made two 2* items. When you factor in materials and UV value, I'd still advocate crafting the 2* items instead... but ragecrafting is a popular and valuable use of crowns. You should beg your brother's friend for investing advice.

People buy frost guns? I mean, anywhere?

Sure, but the auction house only works if another player wants to buy the weird esoteric item you crafted; outside the most popular bits of gear, there are no guarantees that your item will sell in any time, much less for more than the listing price. And if it doesn't sell, you're out the listing fee.

His 10 frost gun trick might not be optimal, but it's quick, doesn't incur risk, and certainly doesn't lose him money.

Yukarie, there are jobs you can get at 16, plus you can get allowance or something for the 3 years before that... I'm a do it yourself person. If people take pity on me I get mad, unless satire is involved. Anyone who begs in a video game just has first world problems. I guess I complain about CE problems, but that's more out of disgust as opposed to actual need of CE.

Pauling, selling frost guns, excluding mats, you spend 200 crowns making them, and sell them for 300. Thats 100 crowns for every 10 energy. That means in a week and two days, you can buy 100 CE! Horraaay investing!

Bait/troll them

What I do when someone begs me is I trade them then put all the crowns/CE I have, unbound items, and any 5* SL materials or regular materials I happen to have. After they start drooling at the items, I just go get something to drink and come back then once they close the trade I say I was lagging and I'll give them the items now. After the second trade request, I just hang around and ignore them until they explode of rage then leave into another Haven.

Another method of trolling is look for your high stocked materials that are in the 100s or 1000s and put them in 1 by 1 then close the trade once you waste a good amount of time and repeat. This method is more tedious but it still works.

Works like a charm if you want to get them boiling mad.

I like to offer to buy their materials for 1/5 of the price they sell for on the AH. Then I turn around and make a profit off of it. The reasoning being that they would have the same from me- free money.

There was this one incident where my friend lost out on 50k cr to some noob who was in her guild and begged constantly but never paid anyone back.

So I decided to take things into my own hands...

I impersonated someone who he owed money too...and threated to have him banned by a GM if he didn't comply.
In 20 seconds I got the 50k back and gave it to my friend who sat in the shadows disbelieving of my methods.

I decided to swindle an extra 20k for the hell of it too.

DEAD BUNNY!!!

._.

Berton, aren't you the guy did the "post the comment 'I like trees' 10 times with dread skelly avatar" and won the 3200 CE and other stuff? :P

Anyway, I learned this from someone else, and it works like a charm. Play the "Why do you need...?" game.

Example:

Beggar: Please gimme crowns *trades*
Me: *Exits trade* Why do you need crowns?
Beggar: So I can get good stuff
Me: Why do you need to get good stuff?
Beggar: SO I can get into tier 3
Me: Why do you need to get into tier 3?
Beggar: so i can beat vana
ME: Why do you need to beat vana?
Beggar: I dunno please please i needs crowns *trades*
Me: *Exits trade* Why do you need crowns?

Repeats...

Eventually, they get bored or mad at you and leave. I've done it twice before, because asking all those questions is time-consuming (:P) and teh first time, the guy got really annoyed and sent me a friend request begging me to stop, the second time, i felt obliged to do this, because this guy had scammed me before (i never forget who scams me...) and he called me a male reproductive organ, and left. Fun stuff.

Nice one... reverse begging. Only that you are not begging for CE/Crowns, you are begging for an explanation.

I used to do this.

Trust me, there's nothing that won't sell on the AH for more than at the vendor, unless it requires unbinding. It's how I got started, and I still do it. (Because why not?) Frost gun for 850cr BIN? Every time. 1kcr BIN? Maybe 60% of the time. Worst case scenario it goes for the starting bid of 350cr--still better after tax than the silly vendor.

The Question Loop

While I was dying of boredom, I decided to think of a hypothetical scenario in which a player counters a beggar by asking stupid questions until he inevitably repeats himself or the beggar gets frustrated and leaves (he's going to leave anyway, the sooner the better). It starts like this:

Beggar: can you give me [insert ridiculous amount of currency here] crowns?

Me: why are you begging?

Beggar: because i need the money

Me: why do you need the money?

Beggar: to upgrade my items

Me: why do you need to upgrade your items?

Keep on going. By this point, he's probably going to realize that you're trying to piss him off and leave you alone. In the highly unlikely case that he blindly continues to answer your string of questions, it should end somewhat like this:

Beggar: you're getting kinda annoying here

Me: why am i annoying?

Beggar: you asked like a hundred questions already

Me: why was i asking you questions?

Beggar: because i was begging

Me: …why were you begging?

Beggar: *gets frustrated and leaves*

That last part would be the ending in the longest possible variation of this conversation. It doesn't actually matter how/when the conversation ends. Either way, you win.

I play a little game

I find my guildie who's complaining about an uber-annoying beggar, send them a trade request. Put in various Uv'ed 3* or 2* items, and a good amount of cr. Then play the waiting game. When they exit out of the trade, I say sorry I left and send another trade request. If ignored, and begging continues, then I begin to really enjoy myself by coming up with various ways to both deter and annoy the crap out of them.
Or I invite them to KoA and leave them when they die. :P

SUNSHAAAAAAAAARDS

Generosity is a good thing, and having an Elevator Pass, I almost always tab someone who needs tabbing, and giving someone at depth 23 a few crowns 'cause they were short for a DA recipe is no problem. Random acts of kindness are a good thing. And in real life, some people really might need to beg. But begging in Haven? In Spiral Knights, which is a video game? Where you can get the stuff anyway with effort? That's not a need, that's the player feeling entitled to have everything handed to them, and for their own sake they need to be broken out of it now, in a video game where it won't actually hurt them.

The 'why' method oughta do the trick.

Here's what you do

Yeah, imagine being an Almirian Crusader in Snowfall aura and a Winter Crown? I attract more noob attention than I'd like. So here is my fix to dealing with them: Whenever they approach me and beg I tell them they aren't awesome enough yet. They need to level up their awesome some more before I will give them anything. Then I tell them they should be more like (insert someone in a unique outfit) and tell them how this person deserves 200 crowns because they are awesome. Sometimes, to add insult to injury, I will trade with that person and actually give them 200 crowns. Typically they will play along. It is too fun.
