So after playing around with the filmmaker a bit, I was wondering if anyone had found a way to successfully import a textured model (and maybe animations) from Spiral Knights into the program. I know it sounds rather odd, but I feel it would be a lot easier of an alternative than to try and export the model into blender (or alternatives) .

Thoughts? or should I just skip trying and go straight to asking for a way to export an OBJ?

Source Film Maker

More than likely you'll fail, as the Source Film Maker utilizes the Source engine, which (to my knowledge) Spiral Knights does not run on.

Your best bet is to construct

Your best bet is to construct a model from scratch and use it. Most SK models are low-poly and should be easily replicated with Spiral Spy and Blender. If you can construct and rig a single base, you can reskin it with impunity to anything you need, at which case you can import it to SFM.

I was asking myself the same

I was asking myself the same question. However, I don't believe that the OOO models will work in the Source engine, due to the fact that I think there's some sort of actual source model file type. Though (given the community) I wouldn't be suprised if there were already a Gmod ready Spiral Knight or something.

Update

So after a little research into the subject I found that, unless OOO comes out and provides software to export the models (or the code used for the file compression/assembly) from their DAT files, this will never happen. I understand their logic from a legal standpoint, but as far as creativity goes it seems this is the end of line.
