BTW same thing. I'm unfortunate to not be able to get this, either. Plus, gifting is out of the question for me... and if I buy one more thing from SK, parents will flip. I have the money, but not the card.

Go to 7-11 or a mall or something, and buy a prepaid Visa gift card. You can choose how much to put on it (generally), and this way you can use that to buy your spiral knights promo. Then use the leftovers to make every day purchases.
The key: MAKE SURE IT IS A GENERAL VISA GIFT CARD, and not a store card. People mess that up sometimes.
