I don't have time to do in depth testing right now. My first take, is they seem pretty cool! The sound and the look is nice. I've run through a basic level with 4, so I haven't seen all six, but they seem good. I like the color variations based on theme.
One question on the damage. I was using the shadow bomb against beasts, and switched to normal, and it did less damage to them. Is this right? I noticed that the Ionized Salt bomb does less damage on the secondary explosion than the Dark Matter bomb, but given that it can cause shock i understand that. But I was surprised that the Dark Matter was doing more base damage than the Normal bomb.
It feels slow, just like bombing in general. One thing I like about shards before was that they were fast. These are not fast. And a stupid baby chromalisk was able to hop out of my shards, so I'm waiting to see what T3 Wolvers can do, if I can even hit them. I'm still sad that my old shards are going away. I will miss having range. I can't even hit switches over a low wall, but any gunner, and any swordie with a winmillion, barb, toothpick, or some other swords, can hit it. So, only bombers get no love.
One thing I've seen already is that while the radius is taking some getting used to, due to the charge times (using mad bomber etc), I could pretty easily lay down multiple bombs. So even though it feels slow, and looks dodgeable, my guess is I will be able to lay down a pretty solid wall of damage. I will test this theory in T3 arcade later.
i found the behavior of the bombs inconsistent when testing them against walls and chokepoints
sometimes the explosions would 'drop short': all 8 clusters would appear, although in a flattened sort of shape where they hit a wall
sometimes the explosions would 'vanish': fewer than 8 clusters, sometimes as few as 2, would appear. the rest seem to have completely disappeared and do not explode
this was especially noticed when planting the bombs in certain clockwork levels, where turrets would be in little alcoves along a chokepoint area, placing a shard bomb right next to them would result in half the explosives disappearing off the edge and not affecting the turret itself
