For a first timer, would you just get a full wolver > vog set or just a vog coat + divine veil cap ?
Whats your opinion on going wolver cap or the magic hood cap families?
Actually, the preferred general loadout set is divine veil and skolver.
You've told us nothing about yourself, so we can't give you any actual advice. There isn't a universal armor set that's the best for everyone.
Are you swords-only (if so, maybe Vog Cub Cap + Skolver Coat)? Are you trying to construct just one armor set for every situation (Divine Veil + Skolver Coat), or are you interested in constructing multiple specialized armor sets soon (Vog Cub Cap + Skolver Coat)? Are you focused exclusively on FSC (Vog Cub Coat + Vog Cub Cap)? Will you whine when you get stomped on devilite levels (some shadow protection)?
Bopp, I a new player so I guess I could fit in the "one armour set for every situation" , I don't have the funds enough to make seperate loadouts for each situation yet.
So does that mean I just aim for divine veil + skolver coat? I am also a bit skeptical on the divine veil as there is no normal defense, wouldn't I just get stomped regardless ?
When I started the game, my well rounded loadout was angelic helm + drake scale mail. Starts at 3 star, easy to make. The defense is well rounded, but the offense is build to amplify peircing weapons/make up for not having one. The status ressists arent that great, just curse and posin. Though this is nice if you're using a faust, plus posin and curse are the two statuses that pervent you from dealing damage. Not great for FSC, but the fallen cronwn is great for void levels if you wanna think really far ahead. Also not great for PVP unless you make fallen to compensate for the unuseable monster damage bonuses. Still, at that point it's only barely compeditive.
Jasonzee, Divine Veil with Skolver Coat is a solid set, adequate for anywhere in the Clockworks, including Firestorm Citadel. (It's not adequate for Shadow Lairs, and I'll let other people comment on PvP.) My secondary character uses this outfit and nothing else, ever. Skolver Coat's normal protection is adequate.
Divine Veil with Skolver Coat is generally better than Valkyrie Helm with Dragon Scale Mail. The status defenses are far better, and the offensive bonuses are a bit better, if you use swords. If you use mainly guns, consider instead Divine Veil with Justifier Jacket. (But actually gunners can afford to use less defensive, and more offensive, armor.)
Is this enough advice? If you want more, you'll need to tell us about your shield. Also tell us your "character class" --- how many swords, how many guns, and how many bombs you use in your typical loadout. You could even tell us the particular swords, guns, and bombs, if you wanted. Otherwise, happy travels.
I would like to point out that you can't make divine veal at 3*, and that angelic and drake allow you to use a slightly wider variety of weapons. Magic hood and wolver do offer better status protections, though you don't get shadow defense untill 5*. Everything else is to debateable for me to bother bringing up.
It's true that Divine Veil doesn't "mature" until 5-star, meaning that its precursor is very different from it. So you have to wait a while, to get that sweet protection. And it's true that Skolver benefits only swords. But this guy seems to be into swords, based on the fact that he's considering Wolver.
Elemental hood and wolver on its own isn't a bad set either. Good status ressist, some people consider statuses more cumbersome than outright damage. They also fit together fairly well, asteticly. Both peices are useful on each teir two boss, and you can make a useable FSC loadout for teir three.
Though each teir two boss does ressist peircing, and the beast and feind bonuses can compensate for not using a peircing weapon.
Hmm Bopp, so far I just have full Dusker + iceburst brandish + the bristling buckler + blaster. I've gone to the full dusker route as of now, but if I find myself feeling quite squishy, would it be better for me to consider the elemental hood?
The best fix to your squishyness is to not be hit. Granted, it is rare to never be hit, although you should be doing your best not to be. With damage bonus, one can clear a level faster than someone who went with defence instead. But this is only if the damage bonus guy takes less hits than the defence guy, otherwise he will have to play safer, slower, and be at a larger risk to die.
All hits are going to hurt, even if you wear a full set for that defence. There are a few exceptions, like full shadow armour against a zombie leap, or full piercing against chroma spit. Actually, I'm not sure about the spit. But generally, those are weaker hits. I in my full shadowsun take around 4 bars of damage from a zombie leap, With the 12pod and 5* armour, it doesn't feel like it hurts. But 4 bars is still a fair amount of your hp. 10 armour, 12pod gives you 22 bars, and 4 is almost a 6th of that. That means you can only afford to take a few more hits from that same source before you have to watch your health more closely. And it's rare to find only 10 enemies in one floor.
Tl;Dr Kill them before they kill you. And dodge.
Again, elemental hood is better if you have problems against elemental enemies and other stuff depending on wich upgrade you ultimately choose but it'd be worse than dusker against piercing enemies.
The best way would be to get one armor for every situation. There isnt a single perfect choice.
Full Wolver.
