Guides say shield UVs are unnecessary, but still as Owlite shields auction well I had been taken to crafting them with my alternate character. Now I have ended up with three UVs – a Shock Res: Low, Piercing def : med and a Curse Res: low. Which one do you think is the best for use?

To elaborate on my situation, my other old character which I made last year before I left had 3-star equipment. 3 star wolver coat and magic hood, a fierce flamberge (weaker than f. flourish but back then I liked the aesthetic) shock & alt shadow alchemer, and a swiftsrike buckler. Well, swiftstrike won’t defend well beyond tier 2, so I was thinking of switching to something else for higher levels. Now seeing the equipment that I have so far, what do you recommend? Should I use one of the owlites or am I best off with something else? Thanks..

Also, I usually sell my shields for 1850 Cr – what would you say the UVs warrant?

Personally, I wouldn't use any of them, but in descending order of usefulness: Piercing Med, Shock Low, Curse Low.

Swiftstrike in t3 is for gunners who find themselves using their shield to cancel reloads or shield bumping more than they use it to block attacks directly. If you favour swords, I would recommend you work on a Barbarous Thorn Shield, which has a very nice Damage Med bonus. Otherwise, your Piercing Med will turn into a nice Grey Owlite, with a bit of extra defence against spikes to boot. Owlite already has a great deal of protection against shock, which should really be enough in most situations unless you're dancing in the middle of the Roarmulus Twins' laser beams or something. As for Curse, it isn't really common enough for the UV to be useful at any value below High.

I'm not really much of an expert on pricings, but personally I vend most non-UV 2* gear for 1k cr on AH, and let bidding go from there. The Shock Low might add another 1k or so onto my start price. With regards to the Curse Low UV, it probably wouldn't add anything particularly significant onto the price of a standard Owlite Shield. (Sorry.) You may be better off asking the Bazaar.

Actually, shock and fire UVs

Actually, shock and fire UVs are totally worthless on Owlite because Owlite already has the maximum possible defense to those statuses by default.

Hmmm... I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that having a Shock or Fire UV on an Owlite shield does make a bit of a difference, but I can't remember the exact post. It's a bit like the same way that Ironmight Plate appears to have the maximum amount of normal protection because the bar goes over the edge, but it is possible to get more added on top of that.

I'll see if I can find a Shock-UV Owlite Shield, just to test that. :U

That would be damage

That would be damage protection. Status protection on shields works differently.

thanks!

I'd be happy to give you my owlite for the research :P (er, pm attach to Aureate, right?)

Thank you so much for your insight in this. I already got the shield when Snarby first came up - I'll see if I can work it into my playing style. Although that'll mean relying on the alchemers less from now on.. Should I get an elemental sword to compensate i.e. brandish? Only piercing damage does not fare well with constructs at all.

Constructs did always give trouble, so there is that incentive to pick owlite for its elemental defense. But then again, the sword attack increase to make up for my flamberge's decreased attack..

Also, is it possible for a mediocre player to survive in T3 and further boss-battles with swiftstrike? I'm not too bad at dodging when it doesn't lag and I do love how it speeds up the alchemer blasts. And that pretty swirling design..

Please don't send me an Owlite shield, I already have one. xP
Swifty makes it quite a bit easier to survive, even in t3. This is especially true if you find yourself shield-cancelling a lot, and it's a blessing for gunners especially. I use it quite a bit when I'm heating up guns in t3, tbh.
The ASI High won't be able to compensate for the loss of damage due to a flamberge being pure piercing, unfortunately. I don't really see why you'd need to rely less on the alchemers, to be honest, although an elemental sword would always be good.
