I can get to the ready room, start missions and clockworks. But as soon as I try to go to haven, I get logged off. And I cannot reconnect to the server by just logging back on - I have to close my client and restart it.
Using Windows 7.
This happens on several different computers, with several different users. All of the computers are well above the minimum game requirements. All of the video drivers are current, as is Java. The internet connection is high speed. All computers are wired to router and cable modem (i.e., no wireless). This happens on computers that are running Windows XP and Windows 7 (with latest service packs and updates made current).
Known symptoms: Usually when returning to haven (this has happened when going to haven from the ready room and returning from a mission or the clockworks), there appears to be a delay. Then the log on screen comes up instead. Further attempts to log on result in "Failure to connect to server" message. When changing computers to log on to the same account, a similar message appears.
It doesn't matter if everything is closed down, the computers powered down and rebooted, the "hung" user cannot log on. This state persists for approximately 7-10 minutes.
The other day, we were having a spiral knights party, with three people playing in the same room. We are all friends on spiral knights. When this happened to one of the users, the game was showing that the "hung" user was still logged on. Not until after the non-hung users saw the "user logged off" message, was the "hung" user able to log back on.
It is as though the game believes that the "hung" user is still logged on, will not allow that user to log back on, but doesn't recognize that the "hung" user and the user attempting to log back on are the same user.
Got an invite to join a friend in 3-2 Snarby mission. Went to Haven from RJP mission. Checked AH, everything seems to be working fine, no lag. Equipped a load out. Clicked to join 3-2 Snarby mission, dark screen with mouse pointer only, then log on screen. When trying to log back on, get "Failed to connect to server" message.
Any ideas when this will be addressed or if there is a work-around?
I think what is happening is that somehow you are logged off, or more, the client is logged off. However, despite the client logging off, according to the server, you are still on, so somewhere in SK you are on. When you said 7~10 minutes, I noticed that sounded like the time it takes for someone to be kicked from the server due to inactivity.
Hmm, check your router settings. Maybe it's blocking something or other. Maybe you have a firewall/virus scanner that is disrupting. As of what I can tell, something on your end is messing stuff up. (This is also due to the fact that your the first one I know who has this issue, and that this is not a common issue or anything.)
EDIT: I have also gotten SK to work perfectly fine on Windows XP, 7, and Slackware Linux. So your OS isn't at fault. Oh, also, could you open your projectx.log file and paste the contents of that file here? It would help a lot. If you don't know, the projectx.log file is in the folder where the game resides. I forget the exact location in Windows.
Thanks, Autofire, for your input.
- Yeah, I noticed the correlation between idle time logoff and my own symptoms.
- Yes, multiple platforms. Using both Windows 7 and XP, here. Usually the game runs great. It is just occasionally when this happens. I believe it is not the OS, I just included that info to preclude possible questions.
- It is not a software firewall or virus scanner. I scan manually and have most firewalls turned off. I am comfortable doing this as I have done systems programming on several platforms in the past (including DOS, Windows versions) and have been able to successfully keep our systems clean. Thus, firewalls and virus scanners are turned off, here. And yeah, the systems are squeaky clean.
- I assume that the only projectx.log file that would be relevant is one that covers the time period in which a fault occurs. FTR, it currently appears to be in C:\documents and settings\*username*\Application Data\Spiral.
- I have scoured the relevant links on troubleshooting SK and am implementing some of the relevant router suggestions - thank you for suggesting looking into router issues.
- I do NOT think I am the first to see this or report it - these symptoms mirror those that were widespread after one of the patches in the last month or two introduced this problem. I had this problem a LOT more frequently, then.
- I was on a laptop in a coffee shop over the weekend. Win XP. Outside of the house on a different router entirely. Had the same problem after about an hour of playing. This inclines me to believe that (if it is router related) it is either that my router at home had similar settings to the one in the coffee shop, or it is not router-related at all.
Will post a projectx.log when the problem occurs again....
Occurred as I was moving from ready room to haven, just after logging on. It appears to go south at the second "Moving at request of server"(12:39:30:390):

Having this problem as well and I've been getting it a lot lately
It's as he said, when I try to load a map (Haven, mission lobby, clockworks level) I get logged out and have to wait until I log out for being idle before I can take control again
Suggestion, take off the [log off] button and get a device to fry our brains if we try any method to quit the application
this keeps repeatedly happening to me too. i dont understand it. im using a window vista premeum. everything was fine then just like u described. After trying to move from haven to another map or from another map to haven i get logg off. and i cant logg back on unless i log off from my computer. its a pain. :(
I've read other threads on this subject, everyone seems to think it's router problems... Also; How do I set a profile picture?
I am betting it is not a router problem.
Doesn't matter what I do, today - I cannot get to haven. Same symptoms. I have 17 things on auction. If no one can get to haven, no one can bid on my stuff, and I will lose my auction fees.
I also cannot join folks who invite me into missions. Argh!!
All right. Since the 5am PDT reboot, I can now get into Haven again. First time this morning.... It appears that the server reboot cleared something up....
i have no idea why every time i do jelly or something i get disconnected i though it was just me but it a few people and different areas
This has happened a bunch of times today. Several times when trying to go from ready room to Haven. Several times when trying to start Jelly King (Sovereign Slime) rank mission. Several times when trying to join a friend on a mission or in the clockworks. Once when trying to start today's prestige mission.
I have noticed, before today, that it seems to occur more frequently just prior to the standard morning (5:00 am PDT) reboot. But today, it seems to happen every other time I try to get into the clockworks.
The observation that this seems to increase in frequency close to the morning server reboot implies a few things: First of all, why do a morning reboot, every morning? It wouldn't be necessary if caches and memory allocations were being properly cleaned up. This implies that the morning reboot is necessary due to exactly that - namely, that there are "memory leaks" and other related issues that accumulate throughout the day, OOO does not know or cannot find what is causing it, and it gets to a point that a server reboot becomes necessary to clean it up, daily. So. Has something new been added that is increasing the "memory leaks", such that it is now getting much worse, much faster?
Same problem here !!
Do you use steam clients ? I'm starting to think thats something realeted about it =|
I feel that there's a connection issue. I now make sure that I can read the spiral news first before I join a party or go to haven first. It seems to have helped a bit.
PS I'm on steam
I do NOT have or use Steam. Not on any of the 6 computers that we use, here, to play spiral knights.
Note that we've had 4 computers at a time, in this house on the same router, comfortably playing spiral knights together without incident. This problem can occur to ONE out of 2 or 3 users. Or when just one person is playing and there is no other router activity going on (i.e., streaming live video, etc.) This sometimes happens to me in the middle of the night when most everyone is asleep and most of the electronic and internet devices in the house are powered down.
Whatever they've added to the new patch with the danger mission, today (September 12, 2012) has made things take a turn for the worst. Now, none of our players or computers can get to haven from the ready room.
We tried on 4 different computers, two different users, same problem.
We were playing just fine before the reboot.
i log in then i get disconnected.then i try to log in on my other account and it says that my other accounts client is still logged on therefore u must wait until the other acount disconnects due to idleness before you can log back on.
ps autofire is right
plz read this gms
oh and i get stuck in the ready room:(

This problem seems much worse today. Very frustrating. Costing me crowns.
It takes at lease 3 to 4 attempts to get out of the initial ready room and to get to haven. Note that this translates to at least 20-30 minutes, just trying to get to haven from the ready room. Because once this happens, I cannot log back on until I am logged off for being "idle".
Please fix this!!!
Note that today I uninstalled the Java 6.0 JRE and installed the Java 7.0 JDK. No change in symptoms or frequency of the problem.
Yea, I've been having this problem too. A while back, before the ready room and missions came along, everything was fine. But now, everytime I try to go somewhere, it loads to 100%, freezes temporarily, plays the music a bit, freezes again, then logs me out, and everytime I log back in, it happens over and over and over again.
I am still having this problem. I have rebooted. I have installed the latest update for Java. Any progress?
