I currently have a complete set of 4* gear. Which consists of the Ash Tail Set, Faust, Combuster, and Wise Owlite Shield. I'm currently horribly confused on which one to upgrade to 5*. I was thinking of getting a Silversix to replace my Combuster. Also should I upgrade my Ash Tail Set into a Snarbolax Set, Skolver Set, or Vog Cub set? Ok, last question........Seeing that the Faust has quite a fair chance of cursing the user. Should I switch to the Avenger and Blackhawk or should I first get the Faust and Combuster up to 5* before I try to do anything else?
(Sorry for the long post, wait, this is making it even longer)
Which One?
Dukeplatypus gives good advice (so he doesn't really need to leave the job to us :).
Xxpapaya, you're the target audience for my sword guide. In particular, the section "Armor and Trinkets" compares Skolver to Vog Cub (you probably don't want Snarbolax yet) and gives advice on the order. The section "Mixing weapon types" explains sword+gun loadouts.
The guide has several sections about the swords themselves. Don't switch Combuster for Avenger. Combuster is awesome. DA is also great, but only try it when you have no other pressing upgrades to make. Gran Faust has a super-long charge time (see data here), so you probably won't be charging it much. Strongly consider a piercing sword.
Maybe i should get the dark thorn blade? BTW I dont use any trinkets :D Suggestions?
I'd recommend flourish over dark thorn blade. The damage and regular combo is the same, the only difference is the charge attack.
But flourish recipes are easier to come by at Hall of Heores.
Dark thorn blade is a boss weapon, so you need to farm the tokens for it from snarby. A flourish, and its subsequent upgrades, and much easier to obtain from the ah. The recipe is also found in the hall of heroes. The main difference between the two swords is the charge. Btb, the 5* upgrade of dark thorn, throws a spray of thorns that knockback small enemies like zombies and gremlins. Flourish charge is a flurry of hits in a straight line. Potentially dealing massive damage, but also puts you at risk since you are unprotected during the charge attack.
Hmmmm, then should I exchange my Wise Owlite Shield for a Dark Thorn Shield? Since it gives a sword damage bonus (and I only use swords)
All right, by the way......Which alchemy path should i follow for the flourish? Furious Flamberge? Fearless Rigadoon? or Final Flourish?
In my opinion, you should get Vog, Skolver and Snarbolax sets. Then you will have resistance against every single monster family plus a sword bonus. Save Snarbolax for last until you get some other 5* stuff and a good SL party. As for shields, get BTS, Wise Owlite and Crest of Almire so that you have normal, elemental, shadow and piercing. As stated above, the only things different about FF and BTB is charge. But since FF and BTB deal pure piercing damage, you will kill a monster quite fast, especially if you get those armors I stated above, the give sword damage bonus, so that leaves no reason to use the charge really. (vog gives ASI, skolver and snarby give sword damage bonus). Flourish recipes are MUCH easier to obtain than BTS so get Flourish. Don't get the Rigadoon or Flamberge, just the normal Flourish. Flourish does more damage than those two. A status effect won't match up to the damage a Flourish would deal.
I agree with Boodo. You want to keep Owlite, but also get BTS, and eventually CoA. You eventually want Vog Cub, Skolver, and Snarbolax, but Snarbolax will probably have to wait. I advise new sworders to get one piece of Vog Cub and then one piece of Skolver, to diversify their protection. My opinions on piercing swords are covered in my sword guide (as is the rest of this). The fact that UVs are easier to get on FF than on BTB is worth noting, though.
Crest of Almire. You can buy 4 star version (Blackened Crest) from Brinks for 30 vana tokens. Then upgrade to Crest of Almire.
It really depends on what situation you're in DA is useful for crowd control, GF is useful for basically disabling an enemy or just sending them to retreat in LD
I really wouldn't count out the rigadoon and flamberge for piercing weapons.BTB and final flourish may be a tad stronger and pure piercing, but the fire from the flamberge happens more often than you think and can be very useful, and I'd imagine the stun of the rigadoon is the same way,but don't stray away from these two swords just because they may not be quite as powerful as FF and BTB.If anything, try each of the lines and see which one suits you.And don't replace the wise owlite shield with dark thorn shield. It would be best to have both, one for piercing, and one for elemental.CoA is a good shadow shield as well, but requires a lot of FSC running. As for vog cub/skolver/snarbolax,you'll want to wait for snarbolax, and as for skolver vs. vog cub,it really depends on what you run.Vog cub is better for FSC and skolver is good for RJP and other beasts and slimes.Id recommend getting a piece of vog cub and a piece of skolver and then work your way towards getting the other piece of each.

I say this as a Rig user. Random stuns going off is not really a good thing at all in PvE.
Flamberge is more practical, but really, more damage is where it's at.
Maybe I should get a Hybird. Get Skolver and Vog Cub...... I really don't want to go through all the trouble of getting a wolver coat, then upgrading it to dusker, the ash, etc. As for piercing weapons, i think I will use the FF. I have already upgraded my Ash Tail Coat to Skolver.
Well, finish off the Wise owlite shield first, then go Vog/Skolver. I picked the skolver cap and vog coat, because vog cap and skolver coat looks weird to me :P. But, eventually I will get full set of both.
Since you use swords alot, i reccomend you get both full sets, and then snarbolax. You will find that is pretty much all the defenses you need, You can just go hybrid with any 2 of them to cover defenses for all areas. The people above have explained for your shields.
The faust in overall is a good sword, Curse being the most powerful status. I dont see why you would probably ever need to use the charge attack, EVER. Combuster is good, get that.
Well, so for Snarblebarb/Flourish line, its your choice, they are EXACTLY the same, the only thing to think of is: Do i want a faster more powerful combo charge OR thorns and thorns and a big fat lump of shadow beast biting out into teh air.
That means you will have weapons of all 3 damage types. Then you could probably work on more swords as a swordmaster like all the 3 other brandishes, suda, leviathan, DA, blah blah blah, But i reccomend you get guns. Yes, Argent Peacemaker is just great at keeping the peace from kats, howlitzars and More or less everything but gremlins and beasts.
That awkward moment when you type this, and when you are about to enter it, you fee like its not worth it. Well, i lost all interest to say more, the rest is with peoples hands.
Well, thanks a lot everyone. Seeing that this is all the information I need I will move it to the Graveyard.
No worries, this is hardly a long post. First of all, forget about getting Snarbolax right now. You'll need to go through a Shadow Lair to craft it, and that could be more trouble than it's worth. Could you provide a bit more info about if you use any trinkets or extra weapon slots? Also, Faust and Gran Faust can only curse you if you use the charge. The charge and curse are much stronger on Gran Faust, but the charge time is something ridiculous like 5 seconds, so it really almost never be worth it. I'm going to leave it to Bopp a d/or Demonicsothe to actually provide more competent, in-depth advice about what to do.
