Hello there!

My english is terrible so Im going to make it short :

I'm trying to program a flash application to test spiral clothes.
I know many of you are going to write ( in a better english) : " why ? there is already an amazing tool called SpiralSpy with which you can do anything you want"

Yeah I know, but the problems encountered during the "install" , the awful user interface, and especially my thirst of learning ( I knew nothing about programming or website management),convinced me to try.

I spent hundreds of hours on it, learning, programming, testing, failing, (giving up sometimes),but I have now something to show.

Here is alpha version of my tool. Take it as fanart more than as a tool.
https://sites.google.com/site/knightsview/home

Be aware that it's an "alpha" version and it's really incomplete.

edit : As I said my english is terrible, feel free to correct me or to ask clarifying questions if you don't understand.

edit 2 : ho! I forgot, I released this incomplete version because I want to get comments and feedback

The first thing that struck me is that you don't need to download anything- you can just use it (I've been deterred from SpiralSpy due to what i hear about downloading it, etc). Also note: I can't really compare to SpiralSpy, so I'll just be giving my opinion of your program.

Suggestions/ Editing:
-Could you make it so that the model is facing us instead of the other way? :P
- There are no eyes when you use the plate helm
- The color for the accessory is called "Prismatic" not "Crystal"
- I believe the Blackened Crest is a bit too small- it should be a bit longer
- It would be nice if you could move the figure around (with the mouse) like in the 3D model, when you are editing it

I like how it's very easy to use. Being that it's incomplete, I'm look forward to more additions!

Knightsview
ok

@Dark-Flare

"Could you make it so that the model is facing us instead of the other way?"
ok,I'll make it

"The color for the accessory is called "Prismatic" not "Crystal""
I'll correct it

"I believe the Blackened Crest is a bit too small- it should be a bit longer"
yeah , I know, but it's not relly important for an alpha version so I didn't correct it.

"It would be nice if you could move the figure around (with the mouse) like in the 3D model, when you are editing it"
A friend said the same thing, but I prefer the automatic move. I won't change that except if there are a lot of ppl with the same request.

Thx for your suggestions.

But how does it work? Spiral Spy is an app you put into the game folder.
But since yours is online..If you're hosting the models and stuff couldnt you get in trouble?

Ask a GM just in case.

Knightsview
Why should I get in trouble?

Why should I get in trouble? I do nothing that could damage OOO, quite the contrary! And 3d informations are in a non-importable and specific format, which means that nobody can use downloaded data to damage OOO. If they get me in trouble it would be really... not nice ! XD

edit : I forgot :

@dark-flare
"There are no eyes when you use the plate helm"
Of course, the face is not implanted yet, ( as you can see you can't click on the button "face")

From my experience with other games, not-for-profit model viewers are usually acceptable under fair use of ToS. Matters become gray when people use model viewers to reverse engineer game data for profit (e.g. use in another games they are making or advertising) or spoilers.

Very, very sketchy and a pain to use. Very incomplete too.. you have a lot to work on if you want this to be a viable tool. BG color changer too.. maybe even allow us to put a Haven BG?

amazing!

amazing!

Knightsview
can you explain?

"sketchy "
Maybe, but can you explain plz

"a pain to use"
Strange, can you explain too?

I got no gripe with negative comments, In fact it would be useful, but you need to explain a little bit more because yours can't help me.

"BG color changer too"
I can change the back ground ( black bg highlights colors) but I can't allow ppl set up their own background : Flash crossdomain security doesn't allow that. Crossdomain security restrictions can be lifted by hosting a crossdomain.xml file on the server that contains the files but I think you can't do that.
I asked OOO to host this xml on wiki, in order to access armor statistics. But they don't want XD

It sounds cool and I wish I could try it, but somethings messed up on my computer v.v
It keeps saying I have to update my flash player, so I do it, but nothing happens :S
It won't even let me watch anything on Youtube, though it was fine before.

It's cool, I like not having to download anything. You should probably finish it before announcing it though, you'll get haters.

I think it's great. I've

I think it's great. I've played around with SpiralSpy before but I don't use it because it frustrates the heck out of me and I can never find what I'm looking for before it crashes.

But this I would definitely use more if it had all the gear on it. It's so much easier to use for a start. And I reckon all other people like me incapable of using SpiralSpy (for technical or not so technical reasons), or people who use it just for basic previewing would switch to using this instead.

I believe the ability to rotate the figure when editing gear is a very valid and very good suggestion that you should definitely implement. You can still keep the auto move you've got when you select gear but allow the user to move the figure however they want afterwards. For me personally, I would pick one main outfit and then go back to the 3D viewer but most people like to mix and match and test out different combinations which would be a whole lot easier to do if you didn't have to keep going back to the 3D viewer to rotate the figure to see the full effect on the knight.

Knightsview
thanks

@Serell
You got a flash issue. Clear the internet temporary file and the browser cache and try to uninstall-reinstall your flash plugin.

@Flists
I needed to announcing it to get comments and suggestions. It's easier to work with a goal than working and make changes after.

@Minoli
-"I would definitely use more if it had all the gear on it"
I'll update the gear list when I finish the viewer.

-"the ability to rotate the figure when editing gear is a very valid and very good suggestion"
Your opinion is well explained and you give good reasons. I'll keep the auto move but I'll allow to rotate the figure too.

Thx for your comments. As I said on my website, I wont update (and work on) the online version for a while ( 1 or 2 weeks) . I need a holiday. I'll update the online viewer when it's almost finished. I have to

- implement several color filter to get all the kind of color for accessories ( dusky, divine etc..)and others personal colors ( with custom ones like black or white)
-solve the cache issue ( my browser keeps displaying the old version of the viewer even if I clear all possible cache files ( internet , browser and flash one)
-find a way to display armor and weapon stats (as shown on the video)
-implement the face and all accessories
-implement suggestions (make the model facing us, prismatic color (done), the ability to rotate the figure).

It will take me a looooooot of time to do that.
