Ehm, Do I have to restart the arcade everytime I leave? If yes then how am I supposed to reach the core without paying with real money?
I mean isnt there a check point somewhere along the line?

Through the mission mainstream there is a point where you get there.
If you go through the Arcade, because you are not a sissy, once you complete a tier (T1, for example) you can skip that tier on that exact gate (if the gate expires/falls off it will erase this effect) without paying the fee. However, you can only do this after clearing the "town" floor at the end of the tier. You may not be able to sit through all thirty floors in one sitting without paying, but gates last about a week before they expire. That means you can do one tier (T1), get to the "town" floor (Moorcraft, you need at least a 2* helmet, torso, shield, and one weapon to gain T2 clearance), log out for a while so your mist regenerates, come back and clear the T2 floors, get to the next "town" floor (Emberlight, you need at least a 4* helmet, torso, shield, and one weapon to gain T3 clearance), log out for another while so your mist can regenerate again, then come back and clear T3. The very last floor is what you seek.
There are 2 "check points" along the way to the Core. These are the 2 sub-towns (Moorcraft and Emberlight).
Moorcraft (Depth 8) can be accessed anytime after you gain Tier 2 access.
Emberlight (Depth 18) can be accessed anytime after you gain Tier 3 access.
You never have to start the arcade at Depth 0 if you dont want to.
Also, don't forget that you can buy more energy (Crystal Energy)with in-game currency (Crowns). This allows you to have more than 100 energy (more than your mist energy)
