Hello everyone.
Today i noticed that 4* Faust's charge takes fairly less time compared to the its 5* one, Gran Faust with CTR Max. Is this a intentional thing, or a glitch?
Faust's charge is faster than GF
Otherwise OOO wanted the charge to suck more at 5* than at 4*. Which boggles my brain.
Maybe it was meant to balance out the stronger Curse or something (*is* the Curse stronger? I can't really tell), but if so, it was a silly idea. The disincentive to spam comes from 1) the self-Curse and 2) just hitting things with the GF generally being quicker than using the charge. The increased charge time is just an unnecessary kick in the unmentionables.
Stun may have bigger issues or was poorly coded to the point they cant fix it.
Here all they have to do is tweak the charge speed, wich they already did with other weapons, meaning it could be done....but they wont for some reason.
Yes, the curse is considerably stronger on GF, to the point where it curses everything for a full minute when using Chaos.
I would much rather have weaker Curse that doesn't take forever to charge. I don't find the increased strength that noticeable. Perhaps on JK, or the biggest slimes.
If stun has big issues, and may not be able to be fixed, they should TELL US ABOUT IT. Seriously, I'm starting to get real #$%&ed.
Derpules, as you know, weapons don't enjoy their full power when used on too shallow a stratum. So RJP isn't really a good testing ground for Gran Faust (or even Faust). What do you think about the two swords on Stratum 6?
To be honest, Gran Faust is not worth the upgrade if you're using it for t2.
I got one because I had the recipe handy and a Faust, but the unheated charge time is about twice as long as its unheated predecessor. Added to that the fact that it doesn't seem any more likely to curse and that the walking speed is drastically reduced whilst charging, and you really would be better off with the 4* version. The only minor improvement is the extra damage over Faust, which is useless anywhere above stratum 5. I personally regret upgrading it, even more so since I had a Silent Nightblade with CTR/Beast Low that was ready for turning into an Acheron and would have been far more useful as a general purpose sword.

They should at least tweak the charge time to be slightly shorter. If the time is different to compensate for the strength of the Curse, I would be perfectly happy if they reduced its strength and changed the time to that of Faust. As it is, it's pretty much unusable unless you want to carry a bunch of CTR trinkets around or have a ton of cr to splash on a Very High CTR UV. :U
I would also appreciate Stun being fixed, but I have no idea how the status is coded into the playing system.
As for cursing everything for a minute using full Chaos - does the self-curse of the 4* Faust have the same effect (because of the Curse weakness of Chaos), or is it specifically because of the curse being stronger?
(Come to think of it, a single piece of Fallen and something else with no curse resist should have the same equivalent weakness as full Chaos, so that could be used for testing if anyone's got that.)
I would downgrade my GF if I could. I loved spamming the charge.
@Bopp, it's possible that the difference is more marked in T3. I can't say, as I don't think I used my Faust there much before I upgraded it. I will say that even if the Curse is drastically more powerful as 5*, I'd still prefer a weaker Curse that can be effectively spammed.
I've made a loadout based around the Faust (4*) charge. I specifically did not upgrade it to the Gran Faust because of the longer charge time (although the gran faust does have a larger bullet/projectile on the charge and obviously does more damage). If anyone wants to do some testing I'll be free after the 25th.
Anyway, I find that a lot of the time, it is both easier and faster to use regular attacks than to use the charge. In parties, it is hard to aim and line up the bullet/projectile so that you get multiple hits because everything is being knocked about and killed quickly. Most of the time it ends up being a waste of a charge and it would have been more helpful just to use regular attacks (might be because of my latency or suckiness - but this is how I see it). Solo, its much easier to line up the charge attack and get those multiple hits from the projectile in to trigger the curse. However for the curse to be useful the monster needs to attack, which usually means it will wander over to wherever you are only for you to smack it in the face with another charge attack or whack it across the screen with your regular combo, meaning that the curse status doesn't get much chance to do any damage.
Obviously curse is much more effective on monsters that use ranged attacks (gremlin bombers, turrets - although its harder to trigger curse due to the fact they don't 'ride' along with the projectile for multiple hits) and healers.
Heh, I actually might need to make another Faust then; just to spam the charge. After all, my goal is all weapons bearing any kind of distinction.
On stun:
Given that:
-It can take more than a year for OOO to figure out "OH NO! PEPPERBOX PULLS THINGS" and "SHARDS IS TERRIBLE"
-OOO has issues fixing things quite often; like iron slug and tortodrone and flying wolvers
-OOO often makes strange decisions that go against he majority of what players want
I feel that it is safe to role play stun into being a believable status effect.
Stun: A magical status that bends time to allow attacking twice or immediately. Once a target is stunned, the magic will work in your favor slowing them down.
But are you saying OOO meant for stun to be this way? Well, if they did, THEY SHOULD ****ING TOLD US ABOUT IT BECAUSE EVERYONE BELIEVES IT'S BROKEN. And it's waaaaay underpowered. The double attacks it causes make it do more harm than good. Even if it didn't do double attacks, it still wouldn't be allt hat great. It's the normal damage of statuses.
Protip: It's been like that since practically FOREVER. Which is why I still haven't gotten GF yet (though they really need to buff it)
Would anyone mind informing me what the stun thing is? I looked up the Faust and Grand Faust pages, and I have read all the guides, and I haven't noticed a stun thing related to them. Unless I'm completely missing the point...
Thanks. Looked it up as a general bug and found it. Never seen it myself but good to know.
I want to believe this is intended. The weapon and this 'issue' is more than a year old.
If it was a glitch, it should have been fixed by now or at least a comment of an admin saying "we're looking into it".
