Was doing the Arena on Depth 19 (always there for another few hours.) which was a complete Gremlin/Construct and well... we reached the final round on the second arena and... all that sludge appeared randomly. Not sure what caused it or what but there was no Oiler.
Didn't see anything on the Wiki about this so yeah. WHAT IS IT.
Gremlin Bombers can sometimes place bombs that explode into oil.
Apparently Gremlin Scorchers in T3 can throw out oil and then set it on fire. Was there any scorchers? :o
@Artisbma: I don't usually block out my stuff but I felt like it. I can always upload a clean photo if need be.
@Balderus: Are you sure about that? This is the first time seeing it happen.
@Saphykun: There were Scorchers but not during the final wave of Round 2. So they couldn't have been the ones that placed it.
Scorchers can drop oil. Adds to their menace...ing...ness... thing.
It's rare but I've seen it happen more than once.
I can verify Balderus' claim; I've seen Bombers randomly drop a bunch of oil. Weirdest thing to see, and quite rare. I've seen it only 2x in 9+ months.
