I just realized while browsing the forums they added a new piece to the game, called Boss2. It was playing during the finale of C42, but I never actually heard the song, as it was too quiet during the boss fight and tended to be drowned out by the fighting. And yes, all of the sound bars were at max and my own sound was quite high as well.
I'm listening to the other tracks as well, and I noticed they were all much louder than Boss2. Something tells me this wasn't on purpose.

Know why the music's so low?
I turned the volume up and slipped the change in just before we did the emergency bugfix release. You should be able to hear the boss music clearly now.
Wait, what bugfix? Would that be the patch, or the yet-to-be released fix for the C42 elevators?
Edit: just curious, since I haven't noticed SK downloading another patch beyond the C42 release.
New boss? New music? what new boss? there is no new boss, no new content. Game is not working what are you talking about?
Im sure that a trustworthy and reliable company like OOO would never let happen a thing when part of players can enjoy game while other cant get in. That would be so unfair and in bad tone.
Check the rsrc>sound>music file folks. There's a new track in there.
Of course this is their choice. There are so many other option, you just have to think of them. You just have to want it. Not pretend there are no other people than US

Actually, the same goes for the new slime theme -although it can still be heard. It's just I noticed all the tracks were slightly louder than the slime theme.
