What would happen if PvP was just a simple brawl?

PvP with no classes, capture points, respawn or tmporary invincibility. Just fight in teams and try to be the last man standing.

Would some weapons dominate the game, turning the game into a whoever strikes first wins? If yes, which weapons?

Would gunners and bombers have the advantage and turn the game into a boring standoff?

Would msi become necessary to finish off an annoying opponent who only runs away?

Or would the game be balanced?

Wow that looked fun. I was playing SK at that time but I didn't like PvP then. It looks fun but lockdown is a lot more balanced than that super brawl thing.

@ Shoebox

Couldn't OOO just drastically scale down the damage for it to make it fun?

Scale the damage appropriately so nobody really gets their health torn to shreds, and keep the general idea they have there with that PVP, and you've got something to work with.

The team with the fastest Gran Faust, Sentenza, and Polaris would win.

Even if they did scale damage, the same weapons and tactics would be used. It would only take longer.

:O this looks awesome! are we likely to see it live?
Sure it would be the people with top gear who would dominate it ..but surely that would be an incentive for people to get the top gear?, which in turn may earn OOO more money in CE sales and give end game players something else to do?

That looked fun. Seriously that just looked like good simple honest fun. Plus, there would probably be less toothpicks.

It's LD but BYO shield.

I think the main problem with Super Brawl was that there was no real overarching objective to what you did.
It was literally just take in your most powerful gear, kill people in one combo, rinse and repeat.
There was no pickups or subtle nuances between maps or anything.

If they were going to redo it, I would really like to see evenly matched stuff. Maybe even Brawl specific weapons or pickups.
Just something to make it less about being a mindless hackfest and add some kind of strategy to it.

Because it wasn't as fun as it looks.
Even something like Team Deathmatch would be better than what Super Brawl was.

I personally would like a 1vs1 or 2vs2 mode. Or an optimized Super Brawl where skill would be taken into account more than who can slash faster. Maybe as Shoebox said, Brawl-specific equips... hmm I need to think more on this.

More of a throwback to the Avatar/Nemesis idea than anything.

That was EXPLOSION PvP.
Which contained deadly monsters as adversaries as well as other players.
That was never intended to be a serious mode, just an end of beta event.

why not have both?

people who wants to play pvp with mods and such.
(some people complain striker mod is unbalanced with trinkets, which is kinda true)
People who wants to play superbrawl play superbrawl (with diferent kind of modes: where they can fight each other with no mod, or kill the most monster, or have waves of bosses try to kill the players in superbrawl)

That looks like so much fun!

Maybe if they made the spawn points more out of the way and had more of a maze set up this would be phenomenal. It would also be really cool if the last person to kill you showed up as a black dot on your minimap so it would be easier to hunt them down for revenge ;).

Maybe if weapons did less damage, it would be tons of fun for a FFA pvp mode.

how do people ignore this subject post

This is why I made a suggestion thread at the suggestion forums, about that... a less part of people did not wanted it maybe because of this. Hm.

I don't know, but I'll say that it looks fun for this PVP. Really. No seriously, it's very fun, with some damage nerfing at this PVP... I'd like that ye know.

But lemme say this... once that if we bring this back, Lockdown will be like Blast Network, in 50% chance. Why 50%? Because some of the players from the preview event know how to play this, thus people will find it boring later on. o.o

*ps: this might be the reason why nobody is seeing at my suggestion thread. (;n;)*

I played super brawl, and

I played super brawl, and frankly, it was terrible.

Some problems:
1. With no specific terrain goals, most smart players ran for the bottom of the screen and the camera angle advantage it conferred. The devs tried to slow the rush by adding spikes, but that just created a safe area for snipers.

2. Since there were no classes, every player moved at the exact same speed. And without capture points, there was nothing to draw people to one part of the board. Sword fights consisted of a game of tag: swing! Miss! Repeat! Gunners had quite the edge, and haze bombs were trivial to dodge. For someone whose use of keyboard controls imposes limits on the ability to aim, this was not ideal.

3. Kills were the only goal, so players with laggy connections or unleveled/ 4* gear were at a severe disadvantage in tier 3 pvp. Super brawl served a small audience and excluded many. As a result it was sometimes hard to find opponents.

It's true that tortodrones made an appearance, but that was a one off event to celebrate the end of beta. By no means was it an everyday thing.

superbrawl sugestion

So pauling you said people abuse camera angle..
If the devs were to make a new map that is a maze and the screen is dark the only light is on the character that way no one can really see anything but there character and they will have to find others ( i hope you know what i mean if you dont i will try to look for a video)

What makes pvp work?

A black screen with characters floating above it.... Maybe it would work, but it would really lack the visual appeal that makes a well designed lockdown map "pop". It would also drastically affect the pace of the game: I suspect that people want a fast paced slugfest, but an invisible maze would make movement sluggish as people focused on navigation.

Smart players would be able to quickly find the boundaries/ open areas using many-shot guns like the silversix, in which case games would involve a lot of spam and few swords.

Good pvp is hard to design. What makes lockdown work so well is that it:
a) Provides classes: not every player is the same, so people are encouraged to mix and match strategies. This also provides a route for people without UVs to get weapon bonuses.
b) Provides goals besides kills: people are forced to go to certain areas of the board or stand in otherwise tactically unsound places. By creating important spots on the board, players are forced to confront area effect weapons like bombs.

To a lesser extent, we also see this in blast network (BN): players can get upgrades over time to adjust their abilities, and by providing the same base gear to everyone, no one can buy an overwhelming advantage. Also, the novel behavior of bombs means that players can use terrain to trap opponents from an unexpected direction. There are flaws, of course (sensitivity to lag and the fact that people who never die get an overwhelming bonus advantage)... But BN is still better than super brawl pvp was.

We have to accept we cant make everyone happy. There wont be a perfect pvp.

For exampe, can you imagine a mist bomber winning a free for all?
Or what about 1 on 1 matches Supernova vs Anything = slow death

Whenever you look there's always a problem, weapons arent equal.
LD did a great job, skolver and flourishes everywhere, but everythign else is (mostly) viable. I dont think we'll get anythign better than that.
