I have been playing SK for 3 days now and i currently got skelly set. Is it ok to get a set armor? or should I mix and match? also what kind of shield and sword would you recommend that I should use? After the skelly set? what tier3 equips should I get next?

but how can i upgrade my tier 2 equips to tier3?
Upgrade all your armour (including your shield) and at least one weapon to at least 4*. You can do this by buying recipes (either from basil or other players) and crafting your new items or buy 4* items premade from other players. So pretty much its like upgrading your tier 1 equips to tier 2 equips.
NOTE: Crafting 3* and 4* items usually requires having the 2* and 3* items respectively from that alchemy path (as tysta said).
Sets do not add any special benefits, so feel free to mix and match. Mixing and matching is actually encouraged to maximize your stats and resistances.
The cheapest option for you would be to upgrade your Skelly Gear. 3* equipment requires 2* equipment as an ingredient.
