The ridiculous range of the toothpick.
It comes from a piercing weapon, so it has a piercing shockwave. What kind of shockwave were you expecting?
I can already see some of the forumers are coming out of the shadows and posting to protect their toothpick.
It makes no sense that it makes a shockwave. It makes no sense the shockwave is pierce. Oh, and it makes no sense their is no animation for the shockwave, so no one can expect it.
Since it's an image and doesnt really show anything, I want to belive you're joking.
I shall download some video recorder thingy (any suggestions?), go back and record it if you like. I know, it's hard to believe I can hit the switch from there, I was trying to show it the best I could with a picture.
if someone else has a toothpick and can record, I would appreciate it if you uploaded a video hitting a switch from a ridiculous range.
Maybe it splits the air creating a wave of nothingness, then when the nothingness impacts the switch, the air comes back creating a pulse strong enough to activate the switch and harm players.

It's the only way to explain it.
The toothpicks extend their reach when you swing by roughly 70% thus allowing you to reach targets further away. It makes total and complete sense and toothpicks should not be nerfed.
I am not saying this because toothpicks are ridiculously overpowered or anything and that all us Lockdown nerds would rather not have the best weapon ever in-game nerfed so that we can continue to rack do 30K+ damage, nope.

It extands a whole 70%? Ok, makes no sense how it extands that far, and it doesn't match up with the animation at all. I'm going to need to record this so you can all see that it blatantly does not touch the switch. I think that's why people hate it in PvP, because people are countlessly getting hit when obviously looks like they're out of range.
I'm thinking one of two things should happen :
Make the animation show it's ridiculous range, or nerf the range to match the animation.

As long as I can see it hit me, I'll be happy. It will be a little more predictable.

There is nothing significantly disturbing with piercing swords compared to other weapons.
Like my Polaris that I use to own people on my gunner alt? the same one that I got 15k damage with? NO! DUN NERF MY STUFFZ!
Like what? The flourish line is the most complained about weapon... well, that and the Polaris.
I just hate being hit when I'm obviously out of range... And if people don't want the range nerf, then I'd settle for an animation to line up with it's range.

The flourish series does have an absurd range, its funny hitting Vanaduke at stage 3 with one from behind his fireballs. Though I still think Polaris is more annoying but hey.. I've learned how fun it is to spam a RSS in LD. So gunners get polaris, swordies get flourish, and bombers get RSS before they make RSS suck on the main server.

It doesn't make you 'bad', you just have to have a lot more skill to get to the same scores as you would with a Flourish on the same level. In other words, Flourish/Polaris is just 'faceroll' mode. In my books, you're already 'winning' in the fun factor if you aren't using the clone loadout.

I don' want my main anti-fiend weapon being nerfed because someone dies too much in LD.
We can settle for a middleground. Slight nerf but longer anims.

Nerfing the toothpicks ridiculous range would not kill the flourish in PvE.
The problem is just the FIRST (most exploitable in PvP) swing having a freaking MASSIVE hitbox while the sword itself is the third fastest in the game behind the spur and cutter lines.
A simple fix for would to make the toothpick combo poke>poke>swing or poke>swing>poke instead of swing>poke>poke.
This would get rid of the reason these swords are so broken in LD while keeping PvE effectiveness.

The wide first swing is part of its effectiveness in PvE though. Devilites, Wolvers, and Greavers are fast and small-ish targets. I rely HEAVILY on a large and fast swing to even hit them most of the time. I especially rely on the range of it to clear away the mobs of Wolvers that mob me en masse, to chip scuttling devilites, and to knock away swarming Greavers.
Once again, most complaints come from people being killing in LD, beyond the "It looks wrong" complaint (which is more a problem with the in-game model, not the weapon mechanics).
Flourishes are already subject to a social nerf: Skolver is by far the most common armor, and high piercing UVs are prized. There's a strong incentive to use any other sword at all, simply to get around the fact that almost any opponent will have high defense against your weapon.

Not really. Wear full Snarby with Shadow UVs or full Vog with Elemental UV's and you'll still be smacked by GFs/DAs+Hammers (Respectfully).
Okay, I wanna show you just HOW broken it is...
I have a Video here... Slowed down by ancient plate, so you can see how Crazy the range is... Only the Sudaruska has anyright being able to TOUCH that switch, from that range.
Once again, that seems to be more a problem with the in-game model than the sword's mechanics.

Tell me, How is that gonna fix anything? Oh yeah, The sword matches the animation, but now a lil baby knight has swords that are just stupidly big for the rest of the game. It just... is quite stupid, IMO.
If you read what we're saying, we're suggesting many different things to happen. I think the range should be downright nerfed to match the animation, for only a Suda should dream of hitting that switch from that far. If that can't happen, then I believe there atleast needs to be an animation to show its full range. Juances brought up a good idea of making a middle ground. Cut the range a tad, and move the animation up to it. Sirus brought up the idea of having it either go poke > swing > poke or poke > poke > swing, which doesn't sound bad either.
You say you rely on a huge hitbox to hit devilits/wolvers? Then get a heavy sword. If you want do do super effective damage, get a piercing weapon, if you want an easier time hitting them, get a heavy sword. Or there needs to be a penalty for large hitbox + speed + invisible shockwave.
I think OOO needs to introduce many different things on the test server to see what nerf helps the toothpick the best. Maybe nerfing the range might be bad for PvE (though I dought getting in actual range will be that big of a deal).
