Grey Owlite or Crest of Almire?

My loadout now:
Divine Veil
Skolver Coat
Blackened Crest
Divine Avenger
Silver Six

I really want a Grey Owlite Shield, but I don't know which one is more convenient. I have 154 CE (roughly 12.3k CR), 4.9k CR, and I'm willing to sell a Nemesis Box if I have to.
Can I afford it? I think Nemesis Boxes sell for 150k+, is that enough to cover it?

Crafting Owlite Shield: 50 CE + 1.4k CR
Crafting Horned Owlite Shield: 200 CE + 5k CR
Crafting Wise Owlite Shield: 400 CE + 12.5k CR
Crafting Grey Owlite shield: 800 CE + 35k CR
Total Cost: 1450CE + 53.9k CR
Average Cost of CE: 80 CR; 1450CE = 116k CR
116k CR + 53.9k CR = 169.9k CR

I have 17.2k CR right now, so all I need is 152.7k CR...

Crest of Almire would cost 800 CE + around 45k CR, and subtracting the 17.2k CR would make it cost a total of 91.8k CR, saving me 60.9k CR...

But cost set aside, which is better and why?
Both have fire and shock defense, but one has elemental and one has shadow.
Would it be better for me to stick with the Crest line until after I unlock FSC, and then farm FSC? or should I move to the Owlite line?

Eventually you should get both, because they are great shields for their respective damage types. But I think that you should get Grey Owlite first, because it is more widely useful, for two reasons. First, a shield is important when you're facing a crowd of turrets, and gun puppies are more prevalent than howlitzers. Second, the floor traps that inflict fire and shock first inflict some elemental damage, so GOS holds up better against them than does CoA.

buy owlite or horned owlite in AH directly since they are fairly cheap, craft the rest of the path..
grey owlite is a great shield, however i do think COA serves better at FSC and LoA, provided that you already have BC.
btw no direct comparasion can be made because of the defense nature.:P

I'm also going to recommend the Grey Owlite, It's actually just as useful in FSC as CoA, plus it's easier to get because of Hall of Heros. Elemental damage seems to be more prevalent than shadow since there seems to be a source of elemental damage weather it's enemies or traps.

Niether is better, one is better for fiends/undeads (stupid shock devilite's and kat's) and the other is better for gremlins and constructs.

Thanks, I've decided to get the GOS, and get the CoA later, when I unlock FSC for a better income ^^

I look up on google Mahkookeh, Spiral Knights and I was sad to find this. I am greatly despressed at the fact that you would create such a long message on a wiki website, while I playing this game two years ago and spending 400 hours on it have not yet used this. Plan your crafting around

Plan your crafting around days when you don't play. That will allow you to defray 350ce of crafting costs for the grey owlite shield, or 100 CE off the crest of Almire.

Also, note that it's possible to mass-craft 2* owlite shields for a good UV- done patiently, this is an easy way to convert unused mist energy into a better shield. Crest of Almire UVs are harder to come by, because you only get one try (= one crafting step). After that, you're limited to expensive UV rolls.

Overall, I'm glad that I made my grey owlite first- it's a great shield- but the crest of Almire is very useful in the large number of undead-themed endgame levels.
