Hi, I have been through multiple e-mails with support, and waited months for this issue to be fixed. Is there any plans to ever address this issue? Playing directly connected is not an option for me, and I am disgruntled over how much I enjoyed (and $pent) playing this game to be unable to ever play it again.

If a OOO Staff member could assist with getting this issue addressed, it would be greatly appreciated. I know I am not the only person with this problem.

Thank you.

Did you forward ports?

Have you tried to open the ports on the router for SK. This site tells you how to do so for your router http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WRT54G2/S...

If that doesnt work, then I would try a DMZ. It can be found in the Applications and Gaming tab. This option is basically like a direct connection. all ports will be opened for your specific IP on the router. Use this option as a last resort. Although I do not recommend you use it long term, basically use it to troubleshoot.

You can find your IP address by using the command prompt:

Depending on your version of Windows (assuming your running Windows?)
  • XP:
Start --> Run --> type cmd. hit enter. --> A little black box with text should appear. Type ipconfig and hit enter. You should see some text output, one of which will say IP address. Write that down as you will need that to forward ports on your router and in the DMZ option.
  • VIsta/7:
Start --> type cmd and hit enter --> A little blak box with text should appear. --> do the same as above.

I would definitely check firewall settings as well. Again, for troubleshooting it is simpler to just disable it, then see if it works.

I will assume you have already been through the standard "Reinstall Spiral Knights and Java" routine. If not, then I would recommend you use Revo Uninstaller for that, as it has the ability to completely remove most if not all things associated with said program. Do the same for java. Revo can be found here http://www.revouninstaller.com/start_freeware_download.html

If none of the above work, then there is a strong possibility that your ISP is blocking the ports required by Spiral Knights to run properly ( as a safety precaution any ports not required by most everyday use applications and services tend to get blocked). I would give them a call and see if they can open them for you.

What exactly.....

What kind of issues are you experiencing?

If it's connectivity issues, we seem to have touched all the bases there. Again aside from contacting your ISP, theres not much else we can do. If you can access the game from another PC on the same network, then that would narrow down our search a bit. Unless you are behind some sort of proxy, then that is a different story.

I'll need a tad bit more information to better assist you.

It's nothing that hasn't been

It's nothing that hasn't been posted in the tech-support forums many times. You can connect to the character select screen, but you can not connect to the entering ready room. You can create a new character, and play through the first area, but then you can't get past that. It's nothing the ISP is doing. It was an problem when the game was first released on Steam, but they some how fixed it. It reappeared a few months ago. I can connect if I bypass my router, but that is not an option for my house.

Ok

Check that you have upnp enabled. Make sure that you have the Router with Nat option enabled. The DMZ option is essentially bypassing your router without bypassing your router. The fact that you can connect if you bypass your router, means that something is getting blocked. I would try resetting your router.

I do have UPnP enabled. I have tried putting my router into DMZ enabled mode, but that still won't let me get past "Entering Ready Room". I can also connect just fine by tethering my phone, but that is not a financially acceptable solution for me with my current data plan.

Hmmm...

Your IP address might have changed. Is the IP address you have now the same as the one you put into the DMZ and port forwarding options?

Try disabling the routers Firewall settings too.

Yes, my IP is always assigned

Yes, my IP is always assigned to the same address from my router, and I made sure it wasn't different when I set up DMZ. Here is a screenshot.

Power cycle

OK, usually after making a change like that the router should restart. Unplug it for like 30 seconds and unplug your cable modem if you have one for 30 seconds. Also, I would shutdown your all your computers as well. Then plug the cable modem back in, wait for it to completely boot. Then the router, and then turn each computer on one by one. This is to basically ensure that settings sync across the board.

Essentially the DMZ option is like a direct connection to the internet. It forces open all ports. There is no reason why it shouldn't work. Plus you have a very common router. A whole lot more people would be posting here if they had the same issues, so I cannot definitively say that its incompatibility issues with your router. I don't think you want to shell out the cash for another router. It may just be a misconfiguration with your router, between your computer and the internet. Seeing how you can play fine with a direct connection.

I don't know exactly what steps you took with OOO tech support, so I apologize if I sound a bit repetitious. Networking can get a bit tricky, so it's best to take it one step at a time.
