When I try logging in through the alt client through steam, it attempts to connect me, and that's about as far as I get.
On the webpage it says, "Signing in, please wait." and doesn't pass that.

Have you tried restarting Steam? This seems to work regarding it not logging on properly (ie. non-steam SK login page).
Not that I'm a programmer or anything, but I'd say it's worth a try.
