Disrupting attacks
So it seems that any time you are hit and take damage, your attack is disrupted. Any charge is lost, and you have to start your attack again.
I have tested a 3 heat Troika; it doesn't do this to monsters.
I have tested a 10 heat Brandish; about 2/3rds of the time it will knock the enemy back and disrupt their attack, on the first swing. (This was first noticed around 5 heat; I don't know if it was happening before that or not). It is this nature -- the first hit may disrupt, the second hit seems to always disrupt -- that lead me to think "Charge!" is a great strategy post rebalance.
But the fundamental question:
My attack only disrupts the enemy if I'm knock them back, with some weapons, not others.
Their attacks always disrupt mine.
So, the questions:
1. Do others have the same observations, or am I mistaken?
2. Is this the design goal/intent, or does this reflect a programming error?
3. Is this what we want? How do we want attack versus attack to resolve?
4. And if you have attack versus attack, why not any parry possibility?
(Both swords are two-star; tests were conducted on a high frame rate Microsoft Windows machine.)
I think we don't just disrupt their attacks with every hit because then the game would be too easy. For instance with the Khorovod (troika upgraded) if you're facing a single shield gremlin they are super easy because the second hit ALWAYS knocks them down (you have to hit them with the first hit also). So, you just keep knocking them down until they die.
The fact that our attacks don't always disrupt their's adds a layer of strategy. For instance i've noticed with skeletons that if I try to hit them with both hits that the skeleton might do a quick jab to me and I lose life. So it's a gamble. If I just hit them once then shield up or circle the skeleton, they don't hit me back nearly as often. If we could just always disrupt their attacks then people would just mindless spam the attack button like what I do with the Khorovod against single shield gremlins.
So back to the other question: If we don't always disrupt them, why does it seem that they always disrupt us?
Hm, today I was doing a charged attack with my khorovd and I got hit, yet the charged attack landed. Could have been lag though.
You really wanna open this can of worms?
It's like asking why you can't summon slag guards or spams heals.
there are 2 possible answers:
1. every monster attack is considered a charged attack, thus disrupting your attack the same way a charged sword attack does.
2. the weapon system simply is programed to reset the combo if the player get hit, what is kinda faulty when you try to pvp.
I've noticed that with a 2-swing weapon, I'm able to *sometimes* disrupt a gun puppy's attack on the second hit. For monsters I have never not disrupted an attack with the second swing so far. (although sometimes for some reason I still get hurt by that "disrupted" attack.. E.g. Devilites! Their objects still get thrown even if you disrupt their attack :( It's like as soon as they lifted it up above their heads, the objects gets its own life)
Otherwise, I've seen it plenty of times that I'm not able to do the second swing of a 2-swing weapon when I get hit during or after the first swing. This seemed to be the case for any kind of attack I received.
..... You just noticed this?
Anyway, troika and other heavy weapons have kb on both hit but only interruption on the second hit. This is kinda buggy right now though, I guess they devs need to sort this out sometime.
