I plan to head on a UIMF run very soon to create the Merc Demo set. This is the only Shadow Lair I haven't done yet, but I know what to expect thanks to my other experiences. I have red up on what enemies are there and know how those enemies act and work, and just about any enemy for that matter. I am a rising bomber because I find the gameplay the most thrilling and useful of the 3, so I might try to bomb there since I have what I'd probably need (despite one bomb, but that will soon change sometime this week). However Depending on how the layout itself is, I might have to go gunner or swordsman - though from the types of enemies I'd assume bombing would be well appreciated. Basically, what is the lay out of the levels and what is best suited for the current items i have. The only information I know on the layout is that on the second level, one of the platform-ridges is actually repaired.

Planned loadout:
Heavy Demo Suit
Heavy Demo Helm
Voltaic Tempest (Yes I am aware of quicksilvers, no i do not plan to use it when they are present)
Freezing Atomizer (Soon to be Shivermist within the next few days)
Nitronome
Graviton Bomb (Might Swap out for Dark Retribution should I get the expansion this week)

I have prominent skills and even though I just started bombing in the last few weeks, I have above average skills (Not boasting, I have just played this game for two years, and know how the game works along with enemy behaviors).

The rest of my items are as follows, so if any combination would be proffered, swordsman, guner, bomber, guner/bomber, gunner/swordsman, sowrdsman/bomber) for the layout and what not feel free to let me know, I can go either or really. Doesn't matter which I go but bombing is by far the funnest ^^.

Swords:
Acheron Fiend Damage low
Barbarous Thorn Blade
Combuster Slime Damage Low
Divine Avenger Construct damage Low
Dread Venom Striker ASI Low
Glacius Undead Damage Low
Leviathan Blade Undead Damage Low

Guns:
Blitz Needle Beast Damage Low
Callahan
Gail Driver Undead Damage Low
Neutralizer Fiend Damage Low
Supernova
Valiance Fiend Damage Medium AND Gremlin Damage Low

Bombs:
Nitronome
Voltaic Tempest Gremlin Damage Low
Freezing Atomizer (Soon to be Shivermist) Undead Damage High
Graviton Bomb
Radiant Sun shards (The mail we all just got... Its being changed. Not viable anymore for UIMF Like i thought, so I had to change it. Keeping this bomb for nostalgia reasons.) Fiend Damage Low
Spike Shower Undead Damage Low

Helmets:
Deadshot Chapeau Stun Resist Medium
Divine Viel
Vog cub Cap Poison Resist High
Heavy Demo Helm
Fracurted Mask of Seerus Toast Mohawk Accessory
Groundbreaker Helm

Armor:
Deadshot Mantle Fire Resist Low
Radiant Silvermail Normal Defense low
Heavy Demo Suit
Groundbreaker armor

Shields:
Barborous Thorn Shield
Crest of Almire Piercing Resist Low
Swiftstrike Butler Shadow Resist Medium

Trinket:
Elite Quick Strike Module

Please let me know! Some UVs are going to change thanks to the UV tickets I will be getting from OOO, most likely my bombs for CTR!

I'd recommend a sword or gun for safety. Bombs arent the best to handle switches and stuff if the situation requries it.
Besides Volatic will be useless agaisnt half the enemies. Even gremlins naturally take reduced damage from it.

Beta

@Rawr
I played the beta sometime in mid 2010. Closed beta, then it became more popular around November of 2010 then the release in April 2011

@Jaunces
What about Shiver? Its small blast radius will not hit switches and can keep Scuttlebots away.

What about the layout and overall swarms of monsters?

Take along..Acheron (half of

Take along..

Acheron (half of the enemies you fight will be weak to shadow, and you'll want less obtrusive ways of dealing damage, as bomb kiting gets kinda hazy because of the large lack of space.)
Any gun (hit switches, esp when on the run, unless if you want to rely on pots or on other party members to do this)
Freezing atomizer (freeze stuff, I suppose?)
Glaceus (constructs)

Then again, I'm really biased towards swords in general. Problem about Nitronome and co is that knocking stuff around really is annoying to everyone else looking to kill stuff.

If you're okay with support bombing, shiver + dark retribution + nitro + any sidearm, because you're going to need one at some point, whether to get the mobs off of you or to pick off random switches here/there.

For armor, I do suggest vog/heavy demo, just because you need elemental defense, and vog helps with not burning.

For layouts... honestly, I'm not sure how to answer this, but some of the rooms where you could stay safe on one side, and not have to venture into rocketdodgingland... aren't safe anymore.

@Yukarie I just got the OCH

@Yukarie
I just got the OCH Expansion and plan to finish it later today. I immagine the Hammer will be bad for it can launch you into traps if you dont know how to use it to well. But what of he bomb? Also, i suspected as much for layout since UFSC allowed no "cheating" "D27's Area with the water and how you could get in the corner of shadowfire to get said water. Thank you for the useful information though, means a lot :).

Anything Else I should worry about? Shock seems to be my bane as a bomber, so how would i prevent that without disrupting my team (in other words NO Nitronome spamming to keep things away and not boxing my Team in with freeze). Should I just kite? And CoA would be helpful there since I do not own a GOS anymore due to its fire and shock resistance correct? Should i not go bomber then Swiftstrike I assume?

CoA is your best bet, but

CoA is your best bet, but it's still not a very good bet, mind you. If you decide to bring swords along, like majority swords, I would honestly just forego defenses on your shield and go with BTS for more damage.

Shock... you literally don't have much for shock defenses. Not really sure what to do here to be totally honest.

The Dark Retribution is really fun, and pretty good to use especially that it's completely nonintrusive to others. Just don't expect it to instantly shred everything that walks across it instantly. Placing multiples in a triangleish formation is good, so that the radii of the bombs cover eachothers blind spots. Otherwise, I don't know how well it'd work in the area, as I'm not a bomber.

The hammer. Use it during the unknown passage, to bypass the swarm seed movespeed slowing effect. Though I'm pretty sure you've had to have seen someone do this already in the past.

I believe the trick with deactivating the switches on the first stage still works the same as before. The trick for deactivating the rockets in the second stage does not, because the path you'd normally go down after deactivating the rockets got blown'd up. Also, there is a room, I forget which floor but I think it's the first one, where there will be a respawning oiler on top of a flame grill. There's no corresponding quicksilver in a shock trap in the room I'm thinking of. Every time you kill the oiler, it causes oil to splash across the entire room.

Can't remember any other tricks, but the other people you're running with hopefully will and/or have done the area in the past.

Thank you for the tips and advice. I appreciate it. And honestly I have not seen anyone, nor though of the hammer in unknown passage :o. I usually just take a nitronome to ensure safety. Thank you so much though. Wish me luck on my journey!

A random Link appeared!

This is an UIMF SOLO by Vokster. I would tag him, but this aint Facebook so nvm. Its only Depth one, Look for the rest on the right side.

Greay Owlite Defends you from just about Everything. Its Fire AND Shock, so CoA and GoS Are good, but there is no shadow dmg in UIMF so Get out CoA, Its Grey Owlite For you.

For your armor.... Its Divine veil or Grey Feather Cowl, but Divine has shadow/elemental and grey feather has elemental/normal, so Grey Feather Cowl is overall the best gear for that area. For gunners it would be the perfect mask of seerus, but your guns... Are just Meh. Polaris is the only viable gun in UIMF anyway.... all other guns are pretty hard to use, The only actual viable gun in your set is Hail Driver (which you spelt wrong :P) but its ridiculously hard to use against huge hordes of enemys. Polaris is actually good for gremlins, keep knocking and interrupting. If you will bring bombs, just use Shivermist. Freeze ALL the things! You will need it, otherwise enemies will trap you in a corner. Swords, DA and Archeron, although GF could be better.

If you dont want to craft a polaris, I guess Supernova is actually pretty good itself. Really, your armor is not good for this area. Grey Feather. Now.

@Incineron...

While I appreciate your addition, I do not appreciate being told what I need to make to survive. Apparently you ignored the Vog Cub Cap I had listed. vog cub offers me ASI for my swords. If I wanted another armor set, it'd be Vog Coat instead of Grey feather. I like Normal defense over increased -insert type here- since, you know, everything does a mix of normal damage. True elemental would protect me from shock ticks, but there's a thing called a shield. I asked what it is in my arsenal that I should use, not "Here make this, and this, and this, oh you know you aren't cut out for this." Its an insult to me and my skill as a player. As far as Polaris, I like knock back so Supernova wins me over in that aspect. Please repost, if you must, telling me what I am to use with my current sets. Im making a set that will cost 1.6k CE and 10CR to make, im not going to spend 1450 CE PER PIECE for a new armor set. I'd rather go on another run and buy the materials from AH than do that. Cheaper in the long run, but I havent done RRT so I would like to experience it. Oh and the typo's were intentional. Along with Swiftstrike Butler.

EDIT: And its not the groups of enemies I worry with Hail, its the ricochet that will or can hit switches. If anything, its great for hoards of enemies due to the ricochet.

And another EDIT: Its Grey Owlite Shield, not Greay Owlite Shield

Please read before commenting blatantly...

Incineron look.

"what is best suited for the current items i have" quoted from Darkparadox.

Take your Grey (which you spelled wrong :P) Owlite demands somewhere else seriously. It's not the end of the world if he doesn't have it.

Hi

Hi, i want to do this too, mind if i join you?

I'm going to be using a gunner/swordie loadout

Mask of Seerus
or maybe Merc Demo Helm fire med and elemental low

Snarby coat, max fire and max shock

BTS Normal low
or maybe Crest of almire normal low

Gigawatt pulsar, CTR VH (to be polaris)
GF, ASI low
DA, slime low
Empty spot to be determined later

I have done Ice Queen and Rabid Snarby. I'm trying to get echo stones right now... >.> i forgot to pick up the ice queen one but oh well.

As for what you should bring, well, if you bring along good friends who are skilled players, match your loadouts to compensate for theirs and such. For example, if everyone has swords, bring some bombs and guns. A good party should be well rounded in ways to deal damage, not so much in protection though.
