Greetings and salutations!

Under normal circumstance, I would be obliged to scream "OP OP! THIS NEEDS TO BE NERFED INTO OBLIVION! RAWR BLARGH BLARGH!", however I am taking a much calmer approach. As many are aware, auto targeting with the flourish or the thorn has long been used in conjunction with the booster for obvious reasons. As I don't want to stoop to a level so low as to "fight fire with fire" and use the same playstyle, I've been wondering about alternate means to combat such enemies. I've mostly been using the Defender class in conjunction with a sealed sword (fighting at Tier 2 pvp). Unless I consistently knock them back as they dash towards me, there is no escape, the shield gets broken with ease, and more or less I cannot even use my own sword due to the interruption from each attack they launch at me.

From your experience fellow Spiral Knights players, what do you do to fight against the growing number of flourish + booster users in Lockdown? Is it a lost cause, or is there some underlying method I have yet to attempt that seems to have a high success rate for others?

Nope.avi

I'm a "career recon" asi i like to call it, aka I play recon for 99% of my games except for when I'm trolling around. I agree with Juances- Haze-type bombs and recon cloaks do help, albeit guardian is in my opinion the better bombing class. As a recon, I can take down any player PROVIDED I can get the first ambush in. That said, hardly anyone i know of who is a recon does ambushes well >.>;

Another approach is the Guardian. Guardians + Sheildcancel can be a deadly combo. Same with Strikers and guns

It just comes down to skill level, class and weapon preference, and sadly, your latency P:

What Little-Juances said.

I go into T2 LD mainly with a Haze Bomb MK II and Nightblade (I have a third slot for Striker, although it's kind of a hit or miss on whether or not I can use it for keeping flourish happy strikers hitstunned).

I used to use Lightning Capacitor, but they would honestly just run through and get shocked without much care, wrecking in maybe like half a second more than normal. The Haze Bomb's also a hit or miss for me too, since they just seem to attack me easily regardless... > >

Against good Flourish Striker Wolver Clones though, you wouldn't really stand a chance, which really sucks.

How to win

I play as a bomber guardian. In most Lockdown matches you will never be hit by a sword as long as you spam Voltaic Tempest. Then you'll just have to worry about dodging Polaris. I usually fight back with my own Polaris.

Mix in a bowl, let stir for 5-7 minutes, best served on a control point alone or with one friend.

@Bacon-Strip

I play Recon and I can dodge the Pulsar line 90% of the time just by strafing a little bit (while still staying on a control point or whatnot). I REALLY doubt strikers will have much more of a problem with that. Plus assuming you don't get shocked, you take like what, 10-15% of your hp?

Auto aim isn't all it's

Auto aim isn't all it's cracked up to be- I use it with a snarby sword, and many a time have I swung into the middle of a cluster of enemies without hitting anyone. Then again, keyboard movement isn't great for aiming to begin with.

The trick to fighting strikers with flourishes is to shut down the main strength of the class (movement). The size of Polaris bullets makes that gun an excellent choice for area denial. But the bullets are slow, so fire in a wide arc; your enemy will move by the time any aimed shot arrives. Strikers will whine, but it's their fault for running around like crazy monkeys- the good ones won't get hit. The best way to use a Polaris is to avoid breaking down obstacles unless absolutely necessary- create narrow channels that force your opponents into a predictable route, and shoot as they pass through the bottleneck.

5* haze bombs can be used to strip strikers and recons of their advantages, but don't use status bombs on guardians- when the shield is hit, the payer gains momentary invincibility, and the continuous (weak) hits from bomb haze translate into nigh-total immunity to attacks from your teammates. You really have to pay attention when using a haze bomb, lest you make your opponents invincible, or waste time with a status that your opponents are immune to. (shock UVs are very popular)

It's definitely not a lost cause!

You just have to find the right set up for yourself! Though there are common loadouts that are generally work out for everyone, it helps if you go beyond that and either tweak an already acknowledged loadout or make an entirely new one. Though the latter is somewhat difficult to do since not every piece of equipment is beneficial in Lockdown.

I use a variety of set ups including the mainstream Skolver + Flourish, but in my own opinion I find gunning to be the most effective and enjoyable hands down. Being able to hit other players from a distance is definitely a plus!

Hope you find what it is you're looking for!

I tried to use a CHAOS CHARGER loadout. Works well tbh.

Basically, you need CHAOS cloak/hood and a alchemer/brandish (freeze status is the best choice, although i use a magma driver and a voltedge for no other reason but for having a small arsenal ;_;)

After getting this and eventually heating everything up for ctr as high as possible, go striker (other classes are fine, but it's more risky) and just follow these simple recommendations:
- Try to conserve the boost as much as you can, only use it when you really need to go fast (like running away, or go somewhere quicky while being sure noone will come after you);
- If you see a skolver toothpicker coming for your buttocks, start playing defensively with the alchemer and ONLY with the alchemer (trying to fight him with a brandish is suicide, specially if hes good at toothpicking, or just has max ASI since that's more than enough to kill everything that isn't a skolver toothpicker);
- If the bastard has depleted his boost, switch to the brandish and charge him on his face.
- If an enemy is attacking a team mate, take advantage of that and try to blast him with a charge. Any weapon will do, as long as makes him stop or inflict status at him at least.

And a few more general tips for everyone, by my personal experience.
- If you have low health, go back to your lockroom asap. 15 pips won't give you much chance of surviving a battle when more just half one.
- Haze bombs are death traps, specially for a CHAOS knight. Avoid them at all costs. If there's a spammer holding a point with them, ignore him and move on, unless you actually have a max resistance for the status.
- If you're about to capture a point and you see someone running away, presumably low health, don't even dare to chasing him. Finishing to cap the points is the top priority, EVER.
- An entire team capping a point next to your locker room? Should you fight them all on your own to prove you have balls for them all? NOPE, don't even consider it since you'll be dead in seconds without p2w gibberish and some skill, but mostly without p2w gibberish. Just ignore the point and move on. If you cap the one(s) that is/are the furthest back, they'll be forced to get back to cap, saving some hassle for your stubborn team mates, constantly insisting on the same bloody point. Best class for this is the recon for obvious reasons.

And something more about statuses: if you inflict a status on them, specially a paralyzing one (stun, shock or freeze), the silly wolvers will most likely chicken out. If they dont, just behave accordingly:
>Max resistance to a status, as mentioned above, makes the respective haze bomb useless. So if you see a mercurial striker coming after you while you're making a small storm on your feet, don't expect him to stop. Either switch haze bomb or just prepare yourself for actual combat.
>Stun is easy, just go after him and swat the hell of him before it wears off, which it will be in two seconds.
>Shock, despise making an enemy completely vulnerable for a second with every spasm, its still dangerous to engage, since he still will kick your buttocks when he's not busy being fried, unless the idiot got himself on a VT cloud, which then you should be beating the hell out of him.
>Freeze is by far the easiest. Just quickly go to his back and finish him with a brandish charge. Just don't be an idiot for standing too close on his front.
>Fire and poison will not stop the pain train. Fire might discourage some of them, but poison will only make your pain last longer before he puts you down with a stick on your buttocks.
>Curse, if you happen to be a lucky Faust user, will kill the enemies inflected by it 90% of the time. The other 10% either stop in time and run away or switches weapons and keep mauling you.
>Sleep, well, puts them to sleep, making them sitting ducks. But since there's no sleep inflicting weapons yet, you'll just have to pick something else...

And yes, I just realized I made a wall of text telling more general tips rather than actual tips of my loadout but whatever, as long as it helps.

And will be no more threads like this one.

@feller

Huh? AA can be freely used by everyone. If you don't want to use it, that's your problem. Health trinkets in the other hand, are the scrubbiest things a lockdown player can pay for. Seriously, I'd still be alive and kickin' for like 50 ocasions, if not more, if it wasn't for those bloody p2w things weared by toothpickers 90% of the time.
