Yea, just like Love Puppies can spawn in place of any other Gun Puppy. (At least it's what my Love Puppy encounters led me to believe.)

They can replace Lichens.
Any Lichen, Quicksilver, Oiler, or Toxigel may be replaced with a Soul Jelly. Maybe Toxoils, too... someone's going to have to test this theory.
Any Jelly Cube, Ice Cube, Blast Cube(?), or Rock Jelly Cube (that's right, a rare within a rare!) may be replaced with an Impostocube.

a whole year?!
about 6 months, i use to grind SK 6hours a day (now i do about 30min). i found 2 soul jellys in about 2 months apart. its hard to get a decent screenshot :3 but i love the animation when you kill them. Skulls flips and lands. Cool! anyway, congrats on the Rare Find!

Encounter chance
Is it just me, or has the encounter chance for rare monsters gone down?
I haven't seen any of the rare creatures in months now, but I have quite a selection of screenshots of them from about 5 months ago.
Or maybe I'm just unlucky. Dunno.

Love Puppies can spawn in place of any turret... Gun Puppies, Polyps, or Howlitzers. The 2 that showed up in the arena I had replaced Howlitzers.

Or it's related to what maps we do more often. I've seen plenty of impostocube and love puppies, since I do plenty of JK/FSC/Arena. Lately I grew bored of FSC and started doing T2+T3 recipe runs, and finally met my first mewkat.
I've never seen any soul jelly though... it seems to be an ultra-rare.

I've been farming undead (non-FSC) depths for dark shards for weeks now, yet I've never seen a mewkat.
I did see many impostocubes when I was running JK, but I've seen a grand total of 1 love puppy. Even when I was running 4-5 arenas a day.
I was speaking more overall. The number of rare creatures I've seen or my friends have suddenly told me about seeing has dropped to near nothing.
The most recent one was about a month ago, my buddy said he saw a Tortodrone in a treasure vault. I've heard rumors about it, but I'm still skeptical.
-Somewhat unrelated, this luck thing has shown in some other factors. My friends and I have also noticed a drop in the number of lockboxes, mirrored lockboxes, and red/green prize box equips any of us has found or seen. (I should say my friends only, I've never had the good luck to find a mirrored lockbox or anything above a 3* item)

Your buddy lied to you, there are no Tortodrones currently in the game. Items in prize boxes are always very rare. And there's a theory that people who open more lockboxes, get them more often from the prize wheel.
