No more sonic mode for players in the right or lower tier?

Let me first describe sonic mode:

Whenever you have at least more than 1 bar of hp, you can't get one hit kill from one single attack (fire and shock or double attack from zombie can still kill you). Example: 2 bar hp, proto armor get hit by fsc trojan -> lose 1 bar hp.

The example given is still true as of today. However, a tier 3 player in the same game always receive full damage from any damage source regardless of how much hp the player has. So I'm getting one hit killed a lot when I have ~ 3-10 bars of hp.

Anyone notice the same thing?

I actually don't. I

I actually don't. I distinctly remember me surviving shots even when I definitely shouldn't, read as 3 pips of health left and getting trojan SMASHED. Mind you, sometimes, I do get killed through the 1 pip dealio, but thats mostly when it's a status inflicting attack.

Yes! Totally

Often when I am wearing proto armor (don't tell me why) and get damaged by Tier 3 monsters I always have that annoying "second chance" making me have 1 bar health left ._. And in Tier 3 armor it's just full damage :S (Might be coincidence)

It seems a lot of non-bullet projectiles are also able to bypass this. Spikes from polyps/lichens, devilite pitchforks, thwacker axes, etc.

I've never heard it being

I've never heard it being called sonic mode before... What is that even from?

People have in the past dubbed it as the "last stand" effect, I forgot what I originally called it... But no one really knows exactly how it works. And you can definitely get it when you're in the correct tier. All I know is I get really annoyed when I expect it to be there and its not hehe

There's a catch

There's a catch.
The mode only work if another condition is present. I yet don't know if it's about how much damage you're dealt, or how much health you had, but there is another condition neccessary for the 1 pip thing.
It still works, it's not gone, and as far as I know this is how it has always worked since beta.

Well, in a lot of the Sonic game, Sonic is required to collect gold rings. When he gets hit, he drops all of those rings. However, he doesn't die. If he gets hit while he has NO rings, then he dies.

Although I personally refer to it as 'last stand' when I need two.

I believe this has something to do with reviving. If you get health revived, and don't pick up any hearts, Last stand is not there. Otherwise, it's always there.

I THINK. There was a thread discussing it somewhere.

there is 'sonic' mode in SK

yep. My friends and I tried fsc proto gear, 1 trolljan smash left me with 1 bar of health.

I've done enough heat transfers at the end of a floor to suspect this isn't the case. Furthermore on a given floor doing heat transfers, it seems to be consistent. Either something (a spike floor for example) always bypasses it that floor or never does. I have seen spikes both bypass it and not bypass it, but it's consistent for that floor at least.

Although I've also been using the term "sonic mode" I don't really agree with it either. Sonic mode implies that you either die in one hit or two (either you have rings or you don't).

Hold on.

I ran the RJP today, with a 4* item. Sonic mode still applies.

I think that, if the player is a higher star level than the floor's tier, Sonic Mode does not apply to them.
