Im pretty new to this game and i would like to know, do you ever have to pay any money to complete this game?
i have seen 3 star weapons in the shop but not 4 or 5 star weapons or armour? does this mean i have to pay for energy to make these weapons?

You practically have to craft yourself the better weapons. Of course you wont be seeing them at shops often.
There is the energy market for Player energy Trading.
Crafting is better than Depot.
You get more higher ranked gear in the depot with your tier clearance/ranking.
Lots of people got to 5* as F2Ps.
It takes grinding and the reliance with energy market.
