Hi all!

I just discovered SK, and I am having a blast so far. The game is incredibly fun. However, being so new, I was hoping that you guys could provide me with some helpful starting tips. I've read alot of posts and also browsed the wiki, but was wondering if there was any info you could provide that you wish you were told when starting out!

As of now, I'm going to start doing rank missions, but was curious as to whether I should be doing arcade, and what are the benefits.

I'm also looking to meet some nice people to play with and hopefully join a noob friendly guild!

Thank you for taking your time to read this, and for any advice that you can offer!

Yay advice.

1. Be nice to people. (Rule of life in general)
2. Don't beg (asking for something without giving anything of value in return), it's annoying.
3. Arcade is mainly for grinding purposes if you aren't ready to start a boss mission, or if you're material hunting.
4. Use the forum search bar before posting about a certain topic. It might have already been mentioned.
5. DO NOT POST about pets, dual wielding, or moving SK to a different platform.
6. CE is tradable via the big energy symbol at the bottom right of your screen, so don't go buying useless crap from the AH if you can just craft it for much cheaper.
7. No money is required to complete the game.
8. Take breaks. Eat lunch. Sleep.
9. Don't spam.
8. Don't use energy to revive unless all members of your party are dead.
9. More members in your party makes enemies stronger, including bosses. Beware.
10. Crowns, heat, and crystals gathered from the clockworks are shared among the party.
11. Don't be vulgar.
12. Most of your friends should be around the same progress milestone as you are.
13. Vendors sell very overpriced goods, and buy things from you at a ripoff but ok price.
14. Get new gear ASAP, anything is better than proto gear (except maybe the fencing jacket)
15. Expand your arsenal, have one weapon and armor for each damage type (It helps bigtime later in the game).
16. Read up on your weapons, some noob may try to scam you.
Have fun slaying.

Processing Thoughts of You Always

Arcade is fun, but I would start off with the missions. They contain helpful advice as well as sometimes giving useful equipment/recipes.
Cobalt armour is outclassed by Wolver in pretty much every way, for a swordsman.
Likewise, Defender is outclassed by Bristling Buckler.
You are going to want the different specialised damage types.
Go for items that have lines starting at 2* or 3*. 1* items cannot be upgraded all the way to 5*, and will not be useful in the long run.
There are some useful guides to be found here.

Some advice

I know some advice you may want. Here are some.

You may want to find what kind of armor you want. I personally recommend you the gunslinger if you like gunning, wolvers if you like to sword, and if you like bombing, you can take the bomber's suit or whatever it's called.

All lines start at 2* or 3*. If you plan to take on the wolver line, you should take a wolver cap, coat, owlite shield, and a brandish. Any brandish works fine, but there are a few and theres 1 that I recommend you. I recommend the shockburst brandish series. Shock is a great way to shock different enemies.

The armor you will get during some missions will be the Colbalt Series.

Um, Shockburst Brandish?

Personally, I prefer the Iceburst, because a) I like freeze b) shockburst is a PVP line.
Wolver > Cobalt.
Please, do not post on the Suggestions forum concerning dual wielding, pets, mounts, lower CE prices, or any other non-thought-out ideas.

Also, don't CE revive unless everyone else is on low health/dead. By low health, I mean <2 bars.
Sell on the AH unless you need the money NOW, or the item is bound.

Noob friendly guild? Send me a message in-game. I can invite you into a small noob-helping guild.

Try to play in such a way that you are producing crowns… meaning that you'll want to make over 830 or so crowns on each level you visit.

'X' is the default shield key. Move this to your mouse or space bar, as 'X' is a horrible shielding key. Then go and read up about shielding on the wiki, shielding is a huge deal in spiral knights due to a glitch/game mechanic known as "shield canceling" that allows you to cut off time it takes you to attack, allowing you to do more stuff.

Experiment as much as you can

Welcome!

Experiment as much as you can with bombs, guns, and swords. When the mission for 3 star items comes around, pick one of these weapon types as your main type and stick with it until you have beaten all the missions. Go to the Wiki, click on the link "playing guides" and find your corresponding guide. Read as much as you can. Plan early for later success. Also search for the newbie guide, which is somewhere on these forums and is really good.

Oh and once you pick your weapon type, start paying attention to the enemies and how they attack. Try to find the best way to beat each group of enemies and to do it without being hit. This early training will pay off later when you reach the final tier.

Loadouts

That's all great advise, and I for one will put it to use folks. I know this wasn't origanaly my thread, but as a new player myself, one question comes to mind. How, or when can one obtain more then one loadout? Or is there such a need for more then one?

Hit the large-ish Icon under

Hit the large-ish Icon under your character on the inspect screen and select "save as loadout". Multiple loadouts are the only way to change your gear during lockdown. It also saves time in general when changing gear.

Being careful

Be extremely careful with your money. Trust me you'll need it later.

And be extremely careful with friends. Don't accept just anyone. If they seem unreliable, or if you meet them because they're begging... well, you can judge for yourself.
