Not sure if a new idea, but I'd like to hear feedback: SK Lottery

Not really sure where to post this, so here it is. PLEASE ONLY POST IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO CONTRIBUTE.

Hey all,

I'd like to gauge the community's interest in a lottery type event that I could hold fairly often that would have cash prizes. The idea is that the lottery would start off using my personal funds and then proceed to using lottery profits to provide larger, more enticing rewards. Here's a VERY rough idea of what i'm thinking about doing (numbers are just being thrown out there, they are not indicative of what the lottery would actually contain):

Starting Lottery Prize: 1k CE

Starting Ticket Price: 5 CE per ticket, max 20 tickets per person

Ticket System: Each ticket purchased would result in that character's name being put into a randomizer X amount of times (X being the number of tickets). Every ticket purchase must be SENT BY MAIL to a character that I would create separately in order to track lottery funds. All ticket purchases will be verified by post by me on the forums. If CE is sent after the end date of ticket sales, then that person is eligible for a refund or to put that ce toward the next lottery. Ticket prices would vary depending on the size of the prize (I'm thinking that no player is able to put in more than 1/10 of the total prize, thus giving a system to determine ticket cost and restrictions).

Prizes: Prizes could vary from CE, to cr, to items bought with lottery funds. Of course, all items (given reasonable value) donated to the lottery would be put up as prizes. The value of said items would be determined by an average of several merchants' opinions.

Disputes: Well, considering energy is VERY easy to track, there shouldn't be any. Energy history pages and personal mail will allow both me and the buyer to confirm the amount sent so that no "I bought more (but i really didn't)" problems occur.

Let me know what ya'll think and maybe we can get something going. If there's not any interest (or if this is against the rules, somehow), then it wont happen, plain and simple. If you have any ideas on how to improve the concept, by all means, feel free to post.

Again, please post constructively.

EDIT: Also, to ensure i'm being honest, I could post an "audit" at the end of each lottery showing my lottery character's complete energy history just up to the previous auction. This would allow anyone to see that I am not sending any ce to any of my personal characters.

I think they banned these types of events due to the potential for scamming. Or it might have just been one particular guy that was scamming... I forget; it was a while ago.

There have been player-run,

There have been player-run, game-wide lottery events in the past, all of which were eventually shut down due to accusations of scamming--I can't say that all of them were scams, but they went away nevertheless. I think using energy history to track "tickets" and posting an audit at the end of each lottery sounds reasonable, however I don't believe it would prevent you from winning using a totally separate account (any alt with a separate login, mist, etc. would have a separate energy history). Not sure if this sort of event is actually against the ToS, but I would probably send a support ticket to be 100% sure. In the end, I think the real question you need to ask yourself is if you really want to take on the enormous headaches that are going to come with managing something like this.

To reply to suggestions...

I did not think to put into suggestions because this would not be implemented as an in-game mechanic. I thought that that's what would be posted in that section.

As far as scamming using a separate account, I could just as easily post a screenshot of the character being on the same account as my main. Worst case scenario, i could post a small video each time to demonstrate that the account's energy history is in-fact of the correct account.

Narfle: I'll most likely submit a support ticket (Wasn't sure if this was against ToS (i don't believe it is)). As far as management goes, it's not terribly hard. I've done things like this in much larger games (see EVE Online) and it's relatively simple to do. Management is not the hard part, garnering interest in the event itself is.

Icegill, Falconn, Lightyourfire: See first statement, I thought the suggestion section was for ideas that would be turned into in-game mechanics and not player-run events. My apologies for posting in the wrong section but having 3+ people post the same message is not constructive.

Not sure if this was mentioned (and i missed/misunderstood) but this was brought up: Someone could easily use their alts to purchase lots of tickets (more than one character is allowed). If I were to stick with max 1/10 of pot per person idea then this issue would be counter-balanced by their decreased reward. Yes, they may be able to buy 60 tickets but they would only receive partial profit in return. This would not be easy to counter-act, but in and of itself it is not necessarily a bad thing.

Black Boxes

"Lockboxes" paid for in crowns with a chance at something fun (maybe pieces of a costume-recolor set, OOO is good with recolors... I miss Indigo). Make them some 50k and no key required, and you got yourself a lottery, of sorts. (or blatant crown sink)

Now contribute to your suggestion?
I don't see why players can't do it, no need for all the glitz and glamor of a Dev doing anything.
