Tell me if I'm wrong here

Tell me if I'm wrong here.
Ok so we all know that you get banned for being under 13. And, I mean, age 13 is pretty good age for maturity, right? So why do we have a filter!?
I mean I see f*** and other certain words being against it, but i don't under stand how a** and b**** are against it. Those are words the the 11 year olds at my school say (our school board combined 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th in one school)! And then there is the problem about slipping. I remember one time some guy was going to say a word against the filter, and it would have stopped him, but his finger slipped and the period. So it looked like f**.*, therefore we can see it. This whole filter thing is horrible, depending on what you say. And then there is stuff like omfg and lmfao. That isn't against the filter right? Well if you read it o-m-f-g it sounds stupid. So you basically have to read it Oh my f***ing gosh for it to make sence. Can someone do something about that?

So that people's feeling aren't hurt when people cuss? If everyone cusses so much, it would look like the show the bachelor xD.

@artist yeaaaaah O:
@Darkshaodw then these 13 year old babies oughta grow up, ya think?

I'm 13.
Also, despite that, there is respect, politness and abiding to the ToS.
Seerusly.
No swearing in the game is no swearing.

Just because you're an adult doesnt mean you should run around cursing. What happened to respect or politeness.
And filtering abreviations or 'misspelings' is simply too hard and complex. People will always find an unfiltered way to elude it.

Are you saying you want to see curse words, or that the filter sucks?

13 really isn't a mature age, there are some 13 year olds, who through circumstances of their lives, are mature, but there are few. Also, what good would having no filter at all do? If you don't want what you say to be censored, turn off your filter. If someone is raging at you and they have their filter on, laugh at them for using a less than useful default setting.

Perhaps, but that doesn't make it socially polite to swear all the time.
You are also at perfect liberty to switch off the filter yourself if you so desire.

The average 13-year-old doesn't know half of what it means to be mature. In many cases, they're still nasty little bags of selfishness that are cruel to their less fortunate peers and talk back to their parents (even when said parents are obviously right). No offense to those who are 13 or less and aren't that way- it's just that many teenagers still are.
Cursing does not indicate maturity. Many times, it indicates the exact opposite. Get your facts straight.

gotta do this one at a time >.>
@atrum and little
you guys do know that there is an ignore button right? if a little twerp curses you out, ignore him. And im 13 which isnt an adult
@darkflare
im saying i dont underatand the fact that this game is 13+ but we have a pretty strict filter
@lightyourfire and doctorspacebar
then those little bags oughta quit raging so much.
@aureate
aye and i get that. But when you turn off the filter you still cant say the words in the first post
i would like to get it across that i am not raging cuz i know someone was gonna post for me to "stop raging"

Your whole thread shows just how mature you are, which is to say not very. i.e "if a little twerp curses you out, troll him and then ignore him" That is childish, why not JUST ignore him?
Now stop being foolish. Swearing is the last ditch attempt of someone who can't think of something more intelligent/mature to say. The f's in omfg and lmfao can be removed or other non-offensive "f" words can be substituted.
TL/DR The filters are in place to protect people from idiots like you.

You shouldn't be talking about maturity when you send mails like this.
lol.. Its not me that is quitting, its a friend that send me that image so we could get a good laugh because my friend is selling their items for CE to buy steam games with.

It isn't about a maturity thing at all... It's a Federal Law thing. OOO as well as MANY other entities don't want to jump through the hoops to comply with COPPA.

The OP is a hyprocitical child who fits into the 13 year old stereotypes, and can't be bothered to abide to the ToS?
Then becasue he swears IRL, means he wants it to be allowed it general because of the faxct that we are creative enough to break through the filter, that happens in every game?
The fact that they don't want the internet laws to come after them because they don't abide to those laws. They're needed on online games.
He talks about maturity yet that link and the fact that when someone swears, he decides to troll him before simply ignoring him.
B**** is even worse than F**.
We have older people who are less mature than they should be.

Then why bother making this thread.
Duh.

Ok more specifically regarding the filter - Since this is an MMORPG, and the target audience for this game is from ages 13 and up, OOO had to find a way to put in place systems to keep this game at what could be called a "Teen" Rating. The ToS does say that OOO has adopted a Mature rating for the game, but when you look at it, the only way it can get that kind of rating is through the players use of language. Other than that it's cartoon violence & that's about it. If this game were single player, it would probably get an E rating, imo.
OOO deliberately chose to put a filter in for one of two (or both) reasons: moral obligations, political playing card. in a way it's to cover their butts.
If you would like to hear the alternative, listen in on a Halo 3 online match and get ready to hear a bunch of 12-year-olds curse worse than sailors.

Yes the filter is rather bad, if I remember if even filters words that aren't even bad sometimes. Yes Three Rings will punish people for swearing even though there is a filter system that you can turn on or off.. in short it is just Three Rings covering themselves from possible problems. On a side note, cursing does not make a person mature.

I still honestly have to wonder when people will learn that words are not the problem. It's the usage of the words.
The following is taken from the iRacing.com Sporting Code:
2.1.1. Article 134. It is expected that each member will treat other drivers, iRacing
officials, employees and the community with respect and class on and off the race
track and will not bring the sport or iRacing into disrepute via their actions including
but not limited to those that iRacing.com/F.I.R.S.T official deem prejudice the
integrity of fair competition in any series or special events within iRacing.com.
2.1.2. At iRacing we believe that racing in the virtual world is as much a form of
motorsport as racing in the physical one. Our expectation is that all members of our
community – racers, officials and employees – will conduct themselves in the same
way as a race participant would at an event in the physical world. Each of us owes
every other member of the iRacing community the same courtesy and respect that
we expect to receive ourselves.
2.1.4. Emotions will run as high in our races as they do in all competitive environments.
But rude behavior – whether in actions behind the wheel, in oral communications
through in-sim chat, or in writing on forums – damages social relationships and has
no place here.
Nowhere in iRacing's sporting code does it explicitly say that ANY word is disallowed, but that the manner in which any word is used must be kept in check. I honestly believe that this would be a better way to have a behavior spot in a ToS, because "curse" words are not innately offensive (or they shouldn't be). People should take offense to an inflammatory usage of words.

"Ok so we all know that you get banned for being under 13. And, I mean, age 13 is pretty good age for maturity, right? So why do we have a filter!?"
First off, there are some explicit words that 13 year olds should not hear. Namely anything having to do with the birds and the bees. You should learn that from your parents, not the interwebs.
The real reason we have the censor is because there are plenty of kids under 13 who play. OOO can't go around asking for a birth certificate to determine age. You see, you're taking the law too literaly; the fact is anyone smart enough to be put into a position to make a law would probabaly know that keeping 12 year olds off of video games with the honnor system is impossible.
The only way to kick someone out for being under 13, is by hearing them actualy say that they are under 13. Therefore, the law probabaly isn't really to keep 13 and under kids off the game (spiral knights looks like an E game to me), it's just to keep those kids from giving out their age to predators. If you're 12 years old, you can't tell anyone. It might not be what the law says, but that's how it works in reality.
"It isn't about a maturity thing at all... It's a Federal Law thing. OOO as well as MANY other entities don't want to jump through the hoops to comply with COPPA."
This.
"The OP is a hyprocitical child who fits into the 13 year old stereotypes, and can't be bothered to abide to the ToS?"
Wow, that was incredibly childish. I at least wait for someone to lash out before calling them immature. Like right now. Doh'

Looking at the link,
I would be saying that.

Not saying you're wrong, personaly I don't know the OP. Probabaly about a 50/50 chance he's what you said, but don't play the odds. Wait for obvious proof before throwing punches like that, that mail was just him stroking off for a second, thinking woody was trying to make money before quitting when he was actualy selling his freinds stuff or something. Happens to the best of us (me).
Ooohhh. Thhaaaats why you sent me friend request.
