It's still a common use anywhere. You must be a hipster or something.

Ugh...

A simple answer.

1K=1,000 Crowns.
1K CR=1,000 Crowns.
1K CE=1,000 Crystal Energy.

Now for some more complex stuff.
If I remember correctly, K comes from Kilo, a latin prefix meaning "thousand". Kilograms, kilometers, kilolitres, (Yes. They exist.) and most of the metric system use these.

Also...

Don't forget megametres. That's 1x10(power of 6)m, in standard form, or 1,000,000m.

Processing Thoughts of You Always

Dude. It's not a capital k.
Also, this is the universally accepted prefix, not just for metric system. You get kilobytes as well (although this is not always 1000 precise bytes, but the closest power of two, which is 1024 bytes). It's not some special Brit thing. Mega, giga, tera, nano, micro and so forth all derive from the same standardised system.
Also also, this game's currency is either crowns (cr) or crystal energy (CE), depending on what you're buying.
