Hey, everyone. Recently, my friend showed me Spiral Knights, and I loved it! We showed our other friends and now we have a little Spiral Knights group going on. So, I spent $16 on an elevator pass and 3.5k Crystal Energy, and I'm livin' the life. I'm on mission 6-1 I think? Anyways, I use a Striker (upgraded cutter) but I rarely see anyone else using it. I mean, if it hits twice in one click and its really fast, why doesn't everyone use it? Are there better swords to look out for?

Thanks guys.

People don't use striker

People don't use striker often as it's normal damage and most folk prefer specialised type weapons to maximise damage, whereas normal type will never be "strong" against any single enemy (although keep in mind it'll also never be "weak" either), but with arsenals on every floor folk tend to prefer being able to switch out to optimum weapons every floor.

Although that really just comes down to how many weapons you have and can afford to make, and how many weapon slots you have. If you're still relatively new to the game and have few weapons, then I'd definitely suggest sticking with normal type weapons for the time being and revisit the debate later on, when you're both better informed and better funded, so you can make the decision based on your own preferences.

Personally, I use a lot of normal type weapons on T3 bosses as well and do just fine, but I like never dealing gray damage and prefer switching my set to suit what I'm doing rather than my weapons. If you look around the forums and wiki, there's plenty of discussions on normal-specialisation, often proving that normal has a typically lower threshold for overall dps, although is more versatile for mixed levels. It's really just up to you.

Re:

Best to use calibur for normal damage, as it balances power and speed. Cutters are too speedy but not that damaging. As for brandish, it is good if you want elemental damage or shadow damage, you jsut have to choose what craft line you want for your brandish :) Many people go for brandish, even taking it upto 5*.

Xanafer, I have a sword guide for people like you. It analyzes and compares all of the swords in detail.

Processing Thoughts of You Always

With your Flourish, I would go for the pure damage line; the proc chance on each of the status variants is not really high enough to warrant the damage loss (although they have some use in Lockdown for either causing rage from Recons or Strikers due to Fire/Stun respectively). The Rigadoon especially can be dangerous since it inflicts stun, a status that may cause an enemy to make a pre-emptive attack without any warning, when it wears off.

With your Cutter, I would advise the Dread Venom Striker. It has less flinching power than its counterpart, but this is traded off for poisoning ability, and if you're focusing on swords then it will be easy to max out damage (which makes the bonus vs. beast redundant). Both lines get a total of 10 hits per combo (1 ghost hit attached to every normal attack you make), but before you start celebrating please remember that the combo takes a lot longer to complete than most swords do. It's a weapon designed for dancing with, much like the various Rocket Hammers.

Leviathan is a decent all-round blade. Just be careful with dat charge.

I would also recommend you get a Brandish-line sword (but not Cautery), in order to round out your damage to be supereffective on 4 out of 6 enemy types you'll encounter in the Clockworks. It's not obligatory, but it will make your runs go faster. You may also wish to acquire some kind of handgun as a sidearm weapon for coping with turrets, as this makes life much easier; either that, or find a sword that fires massive friggin' lasers *cough*DivineAvenger/GranFaust*cough*.

Solution

@Bopp
Wow! Awesome guide! Thanks!

@Aureate Yeah, like I read on some other forums - people start to get unimpressed with the cutter line. I kind of am too. As for a handgun im actually trying to save up for a pulsar gun. But with the Hall of Heroes 4* requirement... looks like ill be spending more dough. And I WILL be getting a Divine Avenger. Just as soon as I get around to farming the king slime quest (was it the king slime quest?).

I made an Ascended Calibur, and let me tell ya it kicks butt. I espescially favor the charge attack if the enemy is in a corner and I use the charge attack cause it hits like 3 times for 170 damage :D so yerp all is (somewhat) good now. Thank you all!
