Oh god... the laurel is an accessory... this is going to be funny. Whenever there are several promotions quickly following each other, players start to stack things onto one another- for instance, sonic set + tails tails + love aura occurred directly after valentine's day. Yes, they were the cool kids with the promos, but they looked ridiculous.

Or alternatively, you could just make an alt steam account, buy the game on steam, collect the item on the sk alt, and just mail it to your main. It's really quite simple.

you get these items if you own the game.
so for those people who already own the game, I think you will just get the items mailed to you, probably once a day for this weekend.
for those who receive it as a gift or have purchased it as a gift, you probably won't get anything until you claim it and add it to your library
so for those who have bought the pack of games, you will probably receive the items as they become available.
this is just what I can tell from my interpretation of this promotion.

OOO was probably offered a chance by Valve to do this to coincide with their Team Fortress 2 promotion for the sale. This promo does not affect Spiral Knights in any way other than cosmetically and so you can stop whining.

Considering the existing promotion of Steam users getting a TF2 hat for their first arcade run, I can easilly see the above as true. Is this a bad thing? Well, the playerbase of Steam is substantially larger than any other network service. Many companies are setting up their games on Steam due to the protection conveniences, so infinitely more will join steam. Its good buisness.
The way Id see it, without the partnership with steam this game would blend in more with the other bajillion MMOs out there. However, there are TF2 hats as incentives to play once. Spiral is fun from the first run. This is a very good way to get more publicity and keep people in the door.

1) You can create a Steam alt, make the purchase, and mail the items to your main. No linking required.
2) Since when is "hundreds of thousands of crowns" ridiculous for items like these? The hats are basically on a chapeau level of coolness/uniqueness. Have you been angry all along at the fact that you can't get them without paying 1 mil cr or more for the cheapest of chaps? Be glad you can get these at all.

And do you mean an alt Steam account? You can gift it to whoever, and as long as there is a Spiral Knights account on that Steam ID, THAT Knight will get the hat. You can do whatever you want with it from there.
