Question about the Steam Stuff

I'm more of a new recruit to Steam than Spiral, but this looks like the only real place to ask questions.
So. Couple questions.

- Do you have to have your Spiral Knights account linked to your Steam account in order to get the promotional items? Or can they give you a redeemable code or some such thing?

- Is it still the case that, once you link your Spiral Knights and Steam accounts, you can then ONLY play Spiral through Steam, and no longer can play it through its own client?

I'm not big on Steam, but I am interested both in one of the games, and its corresponding helm. So I'm mixed as to what I want to do.

Also, another question that's probably more fit for a Steam forum, but, when you purchase a game via Steam, what happens if you get a new computer? Are you able to download it to that computer as well since you already purchased it? Or is it lost to you?

Yes, but what you can do if you don't want to link is create a separate Steam account to claim the stuff on. You can then mail it to your main (the stuff is unbound).

Yes, that's true. So create a separate Steam account.

You can redownload to a new computer.

To follow up on that last

To follow up on that last question, Steam games are tied to your account, not to any individual computer. You can download the same game to as many computers as you want simultaneously. The only catch is that you can only play on one game at once on your account, which is done to prevent someone from buying one copy of a game and sharing it with 50 friends at once.

*cough*offlinemode*cough*

But yes, you can only have Steam logged online on one computer at once, and yes, SK will be perm bound to Steam after you convert, but imo it makes no negative difference whatsoever. Nothing actually changes except how you go about buying CE, and it introduces more than the standalone client has to offer (screenies, steamchat etc) so unless you really, really can't stand Steam for whatever reason, there's no reason not to, I figure. Even when Steam's down, there's workarounds to still let you on SK.

But aye, if you stilll don't want to, then nothing's stopping you from making a nooblet account on Steam to recieve the stuff and mail it off to your main~
