I have a table of all of the 5-star items in the game, with their crucial stats. For example, each armor is listed with its protections. I was going to post this list in my own user space, but maybe I should just make a "List of 5-Star Items" article? I mean, would other people find this list as useful as I do?
List of 5-Star Items
On the off chance that anybody cares, here is the work in progress.
Looks fine so far. I can imagine some newbs using it to plan out what items they eventually want to craft.
You can already sort by ratings in the sword page here. It also comes with the abilities, stats, family tree, and the effects it does. You don't need to make a page with a list of all 5* stuff if it can already be done in the swords/bomb/gun/equip pages.
The only thing that's different in your template is the combo and how-get columns. If we're going to go with your table I suggest we add the extra columns to the current equip pages instead so that we avoid redundancy.
Right, but the point is that there is one page that lists not just swords, but all kinds of items. Because I think only about 5-star items (and Swiftstrike Buckler), this is essentially a list of every item in the game. I find this very valuable when giving advice on the Arsenal forum. But maybe that's just me.
Additionally, this format makes the armors far easier to compare than does the armor page.
Well in that case, Bopp, I suggest the page contain all items without upgrades 3* and higher (don't need information on the numerous 0, 1, and 2-star items that don't go anywhere) instead of just 5* items; items that have reached the ends of their respective alchemical crafting branches (if applicable) so as to include items like the Swiftstrike, Winmillion, Darkfang Shield, Scarlet Shield, etc.
That's an interesting idea, Windsickle. I don't want it, because I don't want those items, but maybe other people would find a list of "terminal" items more valuable than a list of 5-star items?
The thing is that if you want to get the vanguard rank, you'll need 5* stuff, so I'd not include the terminal lines of all weapons and just stick to listing only 5* stuff.
I've been playing for a very long time so the page is redundant and useless to me, but if it makes it more useful for other players who haven't reached vanguard yet, creating this page has my vote. I'd still add the stats column though beause I'd like to see the levels of split normal/elemental damage. Plus I like piccies ^^ Too much text makes the page seem blah.
Saphykun, I've been playing for a long time too (18 months now), and I still use this kind of information to plan my few remaining craftings. But maybe you aren't crafting anymore? I also use it to give advice to younger players.
What is this "stats" column you speak of? You mean the amount of damage defense on armors? I feel that that is too much detail. Whether an armor has 7.3 bars of piercing defense or 6.3 bars of piercing defense is not the kind of thing that you plan your loadout around.
I agree that pictures look better than a wall of text. But pictures also make the page gigantic and unwieldy. They let you see fewer items at once, so that it's harder to compare items. And they wreck the sorting headers on the tables. So I have deliberately avoided them.
Thanks for your comments.
Yeah, I've finished with my crafting stuff so that's why the page seems repetitive to me. It doesn't mean that it'll be useless. When you brought up the point about other players still in progress of crafting I understood why you wanted to create the page and it does sound like a good idea.
Yep, for stats, that's exactly what I'm talking about. I'm surprised that you don't really use the stats bar to plan your loadout, though then again I admit that the stats of various armors all look the same to me and that I focus on the bonuses instead. So I suppose you're right that adding the stats column may not be useful. I was just suggesting it just in case some players do want to see the attack stats of a bomb - after all, we may know what type of damage it does, but how much of that damage can it do? Like the Shocking Salt Bomb vs Dark Retribution: Both bombs have relatively the same speed but the shadow bar is considerably longer for the Dark Retribution compared to the Shocking Salt Bomb. This is why I've suggested we add the stats to the table, but it's really up to the people who decide what's useful and what's not. :)
Then again I've heard that some stats images are borked so not including stats may not actually matter. :D
It's certainly true that some stat bars are bad. For example, the Gran Faust speed bar is much longer than the Divine Avenger speed bar, but DA is at least as fast as GF.
I'm not sure that weapon damage bars are reliable either. Even if they are, I'm not sure what the player is supposed to make of them. Mixtures of normal and special damage are hard to understand. For example, Exasperation's detailed modeling suggests that a pure special weapon (e.g. WRH) does no more bonus damage than a mixed normal/special weapon (e.g. Combuster).
Thanks again for your comments. For now I think I'll keep this list in my user space. If it seems that people are finding it useful, then I'll move it out so that the community can take it over.
Trying has given me his approval through other channels, so I'll give it a shot, and we can always delete it if people find it dumb.
