Let's assume every piece of equipment came in every permutation

Like the title says, assume every weapon and armour had a branch for each damage type

What would your loadout look like? For contrast, what does your typical loadout look like right now?

My general loadout for the time being is like this:
Full Volcanic Demo
Volcanic Plate Shield

Dark Briar Barrage
Dark Retribution
Deadly Crystal Bomb
Polaris

It's subject to change, as I'm considering switching the gun with Valiance and I'm working towards getting Mercurial Demo.

So let's assume every permutation and blahblah:
Shadow Mercurial demo (elemental defence swapped for shadow due to all the shadow-damaging endgame content)
Shadow Ironmight Plate Shield (piercing defence swapped for shadow)

Elemental Dark Retribution (DR's pattern is perfect for the generally slow undead and constructs)
Shadow Dark Briar Barrage (DBB is perfect for gremlins, slimes are whatever no matter what)
Piercing Dark Briar Barrage (DBB is already perfect)
Elemental Valiance (Because I'd never use valiance against gremlins or beasts anyway, but I would use it against turrets)

Actually, let's take this a step further, and assume a branch for each damage type AND status

Elemental DR that freezes (for FSC, mostly)
Shadow DBB that poisons (because gremlins healers)
DBB that shocks (because devilites)
Elemental Valiance that burns (other statuses would interrupt knockback and poison is pointless something that just hits a single target)

This thread would also be the appropriate place to discuss whether you think such a thing is desirable or the increased diversity would just serve to make the game blander. I'm actually in the latter camp, but I'm interested in seeing opinions.

My gun and bomb loadouts (I

My gun and bomb loadouts (I don't have swordy loadouts) already carry a mix of shadow/piercing/elemental/normal with me. The only difference this would make is giving me appropriate armour for each section.

I'd have to be in the latter section as well; the defence types are the only thing that keeps people switching between sets. If there was a Skolver for all types of defences, no swordy would use anything else. Shadowsun with all types of defences? Why use the other armours? Giving that amount of freedom would actually discourage players from experimenting with other sets and types of equipment.

Fire/shock resistant Snarby coat. (my max fire and shock would be two immunities to minor fire and shock) Seerus Mask with well... no change, WRH no change, Polaris no change, BTB dealing shadow and polaris dealing piercing.

Sounds fun

I would love
- Elemental Freezing Biohazard
- Piercing AP
- Shadow Blitz
- Piercing Shadowsun (For the pesky Toothpicks.)

No change to GOS, don't know besides to give them all damage type and status resistances.

Enter shockran

Shock Blitz
Shock Valiance
Shock Biohazard
Shock Gran Faust (Shocks on second swing, and LOL @ charge)
Shock Triglav (Shocks on second swing, rare STRONG shock from charge)

I'd be fine with my Justifier and Fallen sets. Though, having a shadow/piercing Heavenly Iron set would be cool IMO.

Also, I'd totally go for a poison Valiance :o

1/2 Elemental 1/2 Shadow snarbolax sword would be nice... could take out turrets w/ the charge in very quickly, and would allow ridiculous range and DPS to other targets.

Would be super effective on- Slimes+Construct
Would be neutral to- Gremlins+Undead
And of course, ineffective to- beasts+fiends.

Basically the exact opposite of piercing damage.. it has high enough base damage to pull it off as well.

Curse (but still normal) winmillion would be incredibly fun to used and slightly balanced as well...

Freezing Bio

Wouldn't the elemental/shadow be weak against gremlins and undead b/c the weakness to damage is a lower percentage than the resistance to damage?

So it would look like this:
- Strong against: Slimes, Contructs
- Weak against: Fiends, Undead, Gremlins, Beasts

That difference is only

That difference is only marginal and visual at most. It's lower, and thus appears as gray damage, but if you actually look at the numbers, they're off by often single digit differences.

Oh, I see. We're comparing damage to Gremlins for example from BTB and the half shadow elemental BTB, right?

Aye, it was like the old Sent

Aye, it was like the old Sent with shadow/pierce being used against jellies; it would come up as gray damage, but the actual damage would be equivalent to normal white damage, give or take a few points of damage. Just creates a psychological thing; people see "gray" and instantly think "screw this, bad damage" and never look again.

I like it too.

It's just unfortunate that the nature of DOTs is that they're best against groups--a niche already so well filled by Brandishes. So Pepperbox > Blitz against groups, sure, but Brandish > Pepperbox, leaving the Pepperbox with no true optimal use.

Of course, as I think we've discussed before, the real advantage of Pepper is its versatility, but that's irrelevant in the thought experiment the OP has proposed.

Although. . . I would love a Shadow Pepperbox against JK/IQ. Mmmm.

Funny you should mention this because I was thinking, several weeks back, that it would be cool if recipes just had a set amount of mats and depending on what mats you put in to craft it would determine damage and status types. This would make bombing fun again.

Shadow Mad bomber helm
Shadow sun slicker

Shocking shadow DBB / Shadow poison DBB
Elemental fire Nitro / Elemental fire DR
Piercing shock AP
Elemental Valiance

Shadow SSB / Piercing SSB / Elemental SSB

Why, this is interesting...

Shadow/Piercing Skolver Coat with shock instead of freeze.
Normal/Piercing Skolver Cap with shock instead of freeze.
Shadow Barbarous Thorn Shield
Elemental/Piercing AP with shock (screw devilites, skolver clones and guardian shields!)
Elemental Toothpick.
Shadow Valiance with stun.
Normal Curse DR.

This loadout is generally focused around LD and some elemental defence would of course be useful. FSC? I'd die fairly hard.
Covers undead and fiend well with the first two weapons while shadow weak enemies are covered by cursing and shooting with something that would be a great crowd control tool. The only family not being effectively dealt with is Beast. Lucky me they'd get a fair beating anyway 'cause they're so friggin' easy as well as the fact that the armour would resist well. Anything inflicting elemental damage poses a threat which is quite ironic because the reason I'd choose an Elemental toothpick is that few choose Vog over Skolver/Snarby in LD. Of course, Vog is still fairly common but those who have it are usually those without any other sets which means that they're usually innexperienced and easily dealt with.

about curse on normal...

Undead and devilites are immune to curse are they not? so a curse weapon should deal shadow damage because you wouldn't use it on undead or devilites.

were do i get started

were do i get started >:3

shadow btb charge attack will shoot out a full 360 spike shower and shoots 4 snarbys up, down, left and right.
a FoV that can curse on each hit (split elemental/shadow with the same force as the 5star brandis line and will not curse on charge since its stable)
skolver set asi VH (for movement not sword asi like vog cub)
a barbarous thorn shield with asi med (just like the skolver set i listed up) and its normal/shadow.
it would be nice that the polaris shock and stunned.
and the argent peacmaker be elemental/shadow dmg:D

thats it :P

That's a Stunning idea, Fez!

I think the most desired might be Sleep self-infliction, if it heals us like it heals monsters...

actual preferences:
* Skelly set where appropriate, with the usual Pulsegun and Toothpick
* Magic/Quicksilver hybrid everywhere else, with Toxicat and Fireburst

things I'd wanna be all the heck over if they existed:
* a themed pair of weapon paths consisting of a Freezing Shadow Troika and a Fire-inflicting Jelly Gun (cold, dark & heavy vs. hot & light)
* Elemental, Shadow and split Elemental/Pierce Snarble Bombs so that bombers can easily cover all DPS bombing needs
* a Vapouriser or Brandish (for good chance of status infliction) with a random status effect and a random damage type
* Spinecones in other damage types, like anti-Shadow, so bombers can blow everything up, and even spam in parties without worry
* non-Normal Blasters
* those bombs we get with Frumious fangs, but in at least one other damage type so it's easy for bombers to gear up for everything, especially party play
* Elemental and/or Pierce Catalysers
* Gloaming Wildwoods reward bombs in more damage types so that PUG bombers would be loved rather than dreaded
* Needlers in the damage types that Jelly Guns used to upgrade to
* quick-charging DPS-oriented bombs that knock down rather than knocking back, so they'd be absolutely perfect for party animals on a budget if they were available in at least two damage types
* A "Dark Thorn Blade" variant that deals Shadow damage
* something like the current Shard Bombs, but without the hazardous knockback and quick rather than with multiple slow fuses, and maybe with something useful like the Magnus' staggering ability
