Speed lets you recover from a
Speed lets you recover from a strike faster - incidentally letting you block faster.
Extra damage makes you hit harder.
If' you're not going to get hit, go with damage. If you are going to get hit (there's no way you're not going to get hit) go with speed.

Remember that your IAS doesn't improve the recovery from the last swing in a combo very much. It only really affects the lead up swings (or in the case of a DA, just the first one) so that you can block sooner.

IAS = Increased Attack Speed UV. That always confuses me since I want to say ASI - "attack speed increase"... which I guess would be wrong even though that is what the UV is actually called, I think... Maybe ASI already means something else? Or IAS is borrowed from another game?
Yes but the difference between no speed bonus and max speed bonus is so small I wouldn't stack it just for that. Not that IAS is bad for other things, mind you.
