So I recently heard about this thing called stunlocking, could someone clear this up for me, I also heard of a stun bug, are they the same thing, in LD someone said i was abusing this stunlock (the first time i heard of it) and I had no idea what it was. I think its when you hit someone so fast their movement speed is decreased. Nick said he was working hard on the bug, im feeling a little scared because i think i might be doing it and when its fixed ill suck at LD for weeks until i get used to it.
i must sound really stupid asking this...
Stunlocking is not related to the stun bug.
As far as I know, the largest bug related to the stun status is that if X is in the windup to an attack (like if X is a lumber charging its swing), and gets stunned, then its attack will immediately hit, without the animation finishing. This is especially painful if, for instance, someone decides to bring stun vials to Vana and throw them as he's charging a mace slam.
Stunlocking is related to the minor "stun" (which is not the stun status) after any hit taken in LD. Know how Antiguas interrupt in LD, but not in PvE? Every hit taken in LD "stuns" you (not the stun status) with an actual stun in which you cannot move or attack, probably better termed an interrupt than a stun. Stunlocking is timing one's hits such that one's target is permanently "stunned"/interrupted.
In essence when I am stunned, my laptop displays my character being utterly incapable of any movement for roughly 1-3 seconds, sometimes longer.
In so not being able to do anything, death quickly ensues.
Skold-the-drac basiclly got it right without clearly explaining.
So lets say your chargeing your blitz to hit a trojan your about to hit its back but then by some stupid mistake a friend or another person hits it so the animation ends and it turns around while your shooting it, it knocks away all your bullets and while your reloading hits you and stuns you.
What you might see is the animation of your weapon in the air if a reloading gun, and being unable to move for a short while unless something hits (doesn't always work) or until your time is up. Or of course the third option, you die from another attack that you cant even shield.
The reason for this?
Stun is broken...
its been like that for a very long time now, its something you need just avoid.
Nottheanswer gave the answer of a PvP LD "stun" which is really just "interruption"
Hope this answers your questions.
Vanilla ~.^
As far as I know, the standing still while reloading is simply the animation playing out and being lengthed due to stun decreasing attack speed.
Knightofcoolness, the times I've seen you play LD you haven't used any weapons with any stun chance. So I assume the "stunlocking" the person accused you of is actually the "interrupting" (so by "abusing stunlocking", they meant "timing your attacks well"). Any stun bugs are related to the status itself; if you don't use weapons that apply the stun status, then there's no way you could be abusing the stun bug.
So I don't think you have anything to worry about.
Shield cancel a floruish in somones face. They cant move and die. Thats th only "stunlocking" I can think of.
The answer is (drumroll) LAG
