Hi! My friends and I played SK about 2-3 years ago when the missions were not out. I started playing before them and got to rank 8-2 so far. they on the other hand haven't done any. They both have 5* gear and would like to do the JK mission with me. How far do they have to go in the ranks to join the mission with me? I have joined other missions that are above me and have had noobs join the mission as well. Please let me know what it is.

You just have to invite them,
You just have to invite them, because they cant join on their own until they reach the mission themselves.

I didn't know this game was around 2-3 years ago. Didn't we just have the one year birthday in April?

Well, April was one year since the official release. The game went into closed beta just over 2 years ago. His friend definitely wasn't around 3 years ago, but maybe they were beta members, I dunno. Ask to see their Groundbreaker if they are.
When the game claims they're not eligible for the mission, that just means they won't get credit for clearing it - they're free to join you on any mission, even if they haven't completed the preceding ones.
Note that the Operation Crimson Hammer missions are an exception. Anyone looking to join needs to purchase or trade through Steam for the DLC.
