i have restarted steam and SK both, cant seem to get in, firewalls have never been an issue and this is the first time since release
that i have had trouble getting into SK at all

Don't worry, I have the exact same issue as have loads of other people it seems. I doubt it was anything in the recent update because I've been playing it since then. Something must have happened in the short time I logged off to coming back on for this to occur. To be perfectly honest it's doing my head in.
