The fact that this question is even being asked is a little ridiculous - let's make it through one holiday festival before we ask about another one that's two months from now, no? A little patience goes a long way, regardless of whatever holiday it is.

How can it not return?
It may or may not take the same form, but I would be amazed if there wasn't something very much like it. Holiday festivals lead to increased activity and increased sales (especially, but not only, if they involve actual CE promos, which may or may not happen). OOO would be fools not to have Winterfest 2.0--and they're not fools.
Shorter version: Common sense. :P

i joined during the first summer Spiral Knights was released
but i still don't rlly like or hate that time
i think that winterfest was dumb
because u had to play countless games of LD to earn enough Krogmo coins to even buy a santie sallet
u didn't even get to keep it!
so thats why i hate it

I'm with Dgraider, winterfest was so lame that I decided to give SK a rest and only came back to the game after some months; The way to get tokens was lame, the rewards were lame and the monsters with hats were so-so. I sure hope that they have learned how to make nice events with this second Dark Harvest.

They improved the Dark harvest
So they are probably going to improve the Winter fest. I don't know much about both because I joined this year

Honk honk. Make way for the dead bunny.
Last year, you had to get everything with Krogmo Coins, and there were only a couple hats, none of which were permanent. I'm hoping this year they will have at least a couple permanent ones, and possibly boxes.
