On days I don't play much I accumulate mist. I'd like to do something productive with it, but I'm not sure what. Any tips?

You can't 'make' slots. What you can do is to use a full mist tank and either 50 or 150 CE in order to purchase a trinket or weapon slot, thereby reducing the effective cost of the item.

Right now dark harvest boxes give out free trinket slots. Too much competition.
Anyways, its not for profit, but for your eprsonal use. If a slot is 150, and you have a full tank, you only spend 50ce-4500cr

Comments alone make this worth reading.
You can save it when you Craft Items. Like when you have 100 ME(mist) and 100 CE(crystal) you can craft a 3 star item when it comes to that.

Ragecraft!
The best thing to do imo when your accumulating mist is to just ragecraft items to try get good UV's. Just over the past 2 days (using an alt that I created for crafting) I have ragecrafted a prismatech alchemer with damage bonus vs undead vh and another prismatech with damage bonus vs gremlin low + ctr med =D (still in the process of selling the second one. Made about 24k crowns off the first one ^_^ ) so ragecrafting can be quite rewarding if you get the right uv's!
use it to craft. Either something for yourself or craft common items (flourish, brandish, wolver etc) to try to get good UVs, even if you don't you can just put it on AH and make a little bit of money.
Or make trinket/weapon slots for yourself or resell.
