Hi, I'm 2* and I'm thinking of buying the Starter Pack.
What should I use the CE for?
I'm not really sure what to use it for yet.
Responses and links to guides would be appreciated greatly.
Uses for Crystal Energy
I'd suggest to take an elevator pass before anything else if you got enough time to farm it's really worth it, otherwise, if you barely manage to finish your daily mist or you aren't that much hardcore the starter pack is also a solid choice, the CE you get along with it should be used for crafting purposes only in order to upgrade your gear to 3, 4 and probably you can get some parts to 5* too with it.
My first suggestion would be to plan beforehand what you wanna take, search for their alchemy paths and then use the energy to get that, look in the Wiki to see what you wanna get.
You should try to get at least one weapon, one helm, one armor and one shield to 5* before anything else.
Hold onto the Trinket and Weapon expansion slots until you can use them proficiently, as long as you can hold your ground with just two weapons and no trinkets you shouldn't waste them.
Whether an elevator pass is worth it depends on how much time you have to play Spiral Knights each day. I myself do not have time to play through more than 200 mist energy. If you're like me, then here's a better plan:
Buy CE on your main account. Then make a second account (not a second knight). Your two accounts now have separate ME streams, because your first account is paid for. Once you get your second knight up to a level where he can farm and craft basic stuff, have him give all of his profit to your main knight. Now your main knight has CE for crafting and a solid revenue stream, and you're basically playing as much as you want anyway.
Or, if 200 ME is not "playing as much as you want", then repeat this with more accounts. For example, you could spend $6 on three different accounts, and have a fourth free account, and have 400 ME per day. By the time you use your ME up, you'll have accumulated more. For a total cost of $18, you'd have essentially unlimited ME forever, and a bunch of CE.
Thanks for the help guys, I think I'm going to follow Dead-Bard's plan. I already kinda know what I want, so I'll focus on crafting.
Isn't that against the rules? I, personally, don't find anything wrong with it but most game companies don't like it. RuneScape is the prime example. Jagex proved how being able to do that without it being against the rules leads to botting and/or overall unfair play.
It's ilgeal to use some multibox software and control both accounts at once. But having 2 accounts on itself or usign them manually is ok.
As Little-Juances said, my plan is not against the rules. This has been discussed in many threads and verified by Three Rings.
Whenever people ask this thread's question (elevator pass vs. straight CE), and I give my answer (CE and multiple mist streams), they always reject my answer. Sad Bopp.
@Bopp: ...don't be sad, I do pretty much the same thing you suggested D:
@OP: Also, the GMs frown upon using your double accounts at the same time and corpse-drag your alt through FSC or RJP, but this isn't actually bannable behaviour. I seem to remember them posting that whilst they would not ban for such a practise, it isn't in the spirit of the game to do so. Or maybe it was that they weren't actively looking for people exploiting this option.
