LD: Who does the heart drop for, exactly? (& caps?)

When you kill in LD, they generously drop you a wee heart to gobble up. I always presumed that it dropped for you, as the killer; the person who appears in the "you were killed by" window.
Altough just now I was in the middle of shooting a guy in the face when he managed to kill me. My camera then followed this gentleman as he picked a fight with another of my buddies and got promptly floored....and a heart dropped.

I certainly didn't kill him; he wasn't shocked or on fire or anythin'; all that'd worn off when I died...the teammate just swung at him and he dropped. Now he obv had low health left, which presumes I did the bulk of the damage, which'd mean that hearts drop based on majority damage...but never before have I seen this. I'm used to just seeing them drop as you land the finishing blow.

But this has also left me to wonder about things like caps and defends, too. Such as how are caps rewarded? By spending a significant portion of the time it takes within the circle, or merely by being present when it changes?

Any insights?

@Darkbrady:

It's possible that the death-cam shows a universal view, not yours. In this case, the heart drop would have dropped for your ally, and be visible from the death-cam.

I can't think of anything else - I've never seen a heart drop for anyone except the killer.

As far as caps and defends...I believe Captures are counted as long as you have a minimum "count" inside the control point. I've never tested it, so I don't really know if it counts if you barely touch it. I assume it does not.

But for defends, I can almost assure you that unless it is like halfway turned from your team color, it does not count. I've "defended" a control point that had the ring's radius barely reduced from my team color and at the end of the game I had 0 defends.

None of this is proof-based or anything, just my experience in LD. Hope it helps.

Nah, when you watch the cam you never see hearts drop; s'why this stuck out to me so much, because it's weird, yo! D:

I'll test the caps tomorrow; I'll spend a heap of time in a cap and leave before it turns; see if I get it recorded.

Never really knwn much about defends; half my time I'm pure support and incapable of killin' (except once...I got a defend with spamming VV....fun stuff) but since I've been dpsing I have noticed some inconsistencies, but then again I've never really thought about it much. Will see if I can test it tomorrow~

Hearts drop for the person

Hearts drop for the person with the finishing blow.
For caps to appear on the scoreboard, you have to be on the point when it finishes.
Defends are kills while blocking enemy capture on your own point.

Hearts!

I've tried killing myself with fov once, I dropped hearts and was able to pick them up later...

A few statements

The Kill cam view is the point of view of the person you are viewing. So only that person, when they kill, will see the hearts their victims drop. In LD only a heart is visible to the killer, no one else, and vice versa. In other words, if you are in a view of a certain someone, and the person next to them gets a kill, you won't see the heart drop. Also caps are only counted when you are on the cap when it is captured, and defends is when you kill someone trying to get your cap. That is that.

So, why did I see a heart drop after my killer was killed by someone else?

Serious question btw, I'm lost~

Huh...

I always assumed that hearts were randomly dropped and that they were visible to all players. Not that I pay attention to this sort of detail, but now that you mention it I find myself curious as well.
