does elemental armour only defend against one type of element? for example would a normal vog cub coat defend just fire but not any other elements or all elements are defended or all elements are defended but fire is the most defended element?
Does elemental armour only defend against one type of element?
Shock status damage counts as elemental thus creating lower damage to, say wolvers than it would to slimes, and will deal increased damage to zombies and the like. Although note that since shock spasms only do about 25 damage on average, this difference is only aroud 3~5 per tick and virtually negligible. Fire damage is counted as normal and affects everyone across the board, however Gremlins are slightly resistant to fire.
As Artistbma said, you need to keep damage types (normal, piercing, elemental, shadow) and status effects (fire, freeze, shock, poison, stun, curse, sleep) separate in your mind. The two have little to do with each other, although as Darkbrady points out some statuses cause damage (later, after the status is acquired). Fire causes normal damage, but normal armor does not help you; only fire armor helps. Shock causes elemental damage.
To emphasize the point, think about the freeze status, which locks your feet to the floor. Here are three examples:
* Freeze-themed gun puppy projectiles do elemental damage and freeze.
* Freeze-themed polyp projectiles do piercing damage and freeze.
* Freeze-themed devilite projectiles do shadow damage and freeze.
See? Freeze can be associated with various damage types. So can poison, as we see in these four poison weapons:
* Dread Venom Striker (normal damage)
* Plage Needle (piercing damage)
* Venom Veiler (elemental damage)
* Biohazard (shadow damage)
I could come up with examples for fire, stun, etc. too.
Fire, curse, poison, freeze, and shock are all status effects. Elemental, shadow, and piercing are all damage types. If something defends against elemental, it defends against the separate elemental damage. Status effects do not come into play here. I believe the vog cub set has fire resistance as well as elemental defense. So basically, elemental and status effects are two completely different things.
