I personally tried both vs
I personally tried both vs Vana solo, and I think polaris is better.
1. Mobility
When you solo, you can only take out one slag guard at the start. Vana may happen to resummon them often, so even the one you nuked would just be wasted effort. Therefore you can expect the company of both guards during the whole phase 5, and staying on the move (i.e. kiting in big circles) is essential.
With argent peacemaker, you have a clip size of 6 versus polaris' 3. With both guns you don't want to use the whole clip and reload, which slows your movement. However, besides reloading, the shooting action also slows you down slightly.
With polaris, you shoot twice and get slowed down twice. With argent, you shoot five times and get slowed down five times. Argent's firing rate is slightly faster, but not enough to make a difference.
So just don't shoot as many times with argent, right? But argent also has lower damage compared to polaris. You will have to shoot more than polaris to maintain a comparable damage output, sacrificing your mobility.
2. Range
Polaris has a longer range than argent. This means you can kite at the edge of the room, which is safer from Vana's charges.
Being further away from Vana brings another benefit - Vana is more likely to charge you instead of smacking. This translates to slower shadow fire generation.
3. Damage
As stated in 1., polaris pack a bigger punch per shot. Less shots required equals to a quicker fight.
4. Shadow fire
Shadow fire blocks bullets. With polaris, you will be hitting Vana with the expanded bullet, which has a larger hit box and is easier to aim than the tiny bullet of argent.

Every other Normal gun is more efficient at the things you mentioned. I did not say Volcanic Pepperbox was unusable, I just said it was possibly the worst.

The main reason Pepperbox sucks so bad is because you stop when you shoot it and each shot is somewhat long. With Iron Slug the stop is quicker.
The only thing that the Pepperbox has over Iron Slug is that it has a chance to light enemies on fire, but I have always found that mobility > status conditions. I guess it depends on the situation, but Iron Slug seems to be more useful if you're soloing or if you're a pure gunner. The only real reason to have either of those guns is so that you can collect all of the 5 star guns. There such better substitutes.
I'd pick Iron Slug over Pepperbox any day.

everbody loves guns, including me! But when it comes to choosing your gun it turns pretty hard. The best tip not to waste any money on anything is to plan
your items when your 2*. You wouldn't want to get the spur and then find out it goes up to a failmillion. Heres a long boring list of 2* stuff I recommend
and what it turns out to be.
Autogun>Blitz needle-the gun with the highest dps in the whole game
Brandish>Glacius-nice elemental damage and easy to work with speed. Oh! almost forgot! Ice in my opinion is the best stat in the game
Wolver coat>skolver coat-good for extra sword damage
Freezing vaporizer>Shivermist Buster-use this for MAXIMUM TROLLING >:D

Oatmonster, I have received my mentlegen award when I was 8 years old for having the best stache in all of grade school. Then I went to Mentlegen Junior High and passed with a 120% grade on my favorite subject, Mentlegen History. Then I skipped High School because my Mentlegen standards were too high. I skipped straight into college and went to MIT. (Mentlegen Institute of Trolling) However, I flunked and went home and printed out my own certificate. Then I framed it.
