The file size is actually quite small, and I was wondering: can Spiral Knights be developed to be put onto USB thumb drives and such? I want to be able to carry this Java game around and play it on other computers by plugging it in :D
(Developer comment is appreciated!)
Will Spiral Knights develop a portable drive version of the game?
I've done it already. Just copy it from the folder it's installed to the USB drive, copy the desktop shortcut to your USB and edit it to redirect the actual folder in your drive.
@jooozek:
Thanks, your instructions work very well!
However, on some of the computers I have accessed, the Command Prompt is disabled by administrators. Is there any way to open up Spiral Knights without using the Command Prompt? I hear that converting a .bat file to .exe will do it, but I am not sure.
Anyone know how to avoid using the Command prompt for a USB-drive version of the game?
is there another way explain clearly plz every steps
Maybe google that instead of necroing a 6 months old thread?
It's rather difficult to make a shortcut instead of using the command prompt, as not all computers will have java installed in the same place. I would suggest using a vbscript instead (and tell you how to do it), but any computer with command prompt disabled will also have the scripting host disabled. Instead, you can do the following (note that comptuers with java installed in a different location will require you to recreate the shortcut):
make a new shortcut to javaw.exe. don't worry about the path.
Go to the shortcut properties, and append the following to the shortcut's destination or target:
-jar getdown-pro.jar .
if javaw.exe can't be found, search your computer for javaw.exe. It may be in a subfolder in c:\windows, c:\program files, or c:\program files (x86).
Common folders to look inside of contain sun, oracle, and java in their names. The file will likely be in a subfolder called "bin", which may be in a subfolder itself.
i came here to search portable version of Spiral Knights and i end up making 1 on my own more or less
if any 1 still need it here is link to my post
Zero you necroed this thread so now I can say that you can't do that! Thank you for this great opportunity.
Zero-Alveiin you can't necro this thread its last reply is too old.
i dont know if u could imagine it but let me explain it to you if u cant
i googled "spiral knights portable"
and this post was kinda 1st link so believe or not any 1 else who will google "spiral knights portable" will also come to this post
and magic starts here (or in ur case its rocket science for u) any 1 who come here will read all post reps including mine and so will find portable version
and even more amazing thing u wont be able to believe I CAN READ and i did read date signatures under last post and i dont have hope OP or any 1 else who posted above me will even read it again
but maybe just maybe it will help someone else who will search for portable version just like me
and that can be shock for u so be prepared but game forums are made to help players who seek help
so digging old thread (which are 1st google result) is kinda logic unless someone have no imagination or brain than its not logic at all :)
ow and trust me i didnt mean to insult you
you just doing fine by ur own ;)

Just because it's the top result from a google search for you, doesn't mean it's the top result for someone else.
Also, when doing research on a topic, do you only click on the first link, (which is often Wikipedia) and visit no other sites?

I "found the portable version" in this thread, by the second post. And if you believe the type of people who find this thread are the type of people who only look at the first result from a google search, they probably won't have the attention span to read any further in the first place (not that they'd need to)
but maybe just maybe it will help someone else who will search for portable version just like me
If someone was looking for the portable version and didn't find it here, they'd find your thread regardless. You don't need to bump 4 year old topics (so that the portable SK discussion, which is only relevant to you and no-one else mind you (seeing as you're the one to bring it up) you have not one but two threads on the front page of the forums covering the topic. Why?
Just because you find an old topic and have read it, does not mean you are obliged to post on it

You didn't mean to insult anyone, you're just condescending and patronizing by nature, so that makes it all okay?
1. Get the standalone copy
2. Install it on your hdd
3. Copy the installed directory to your pendrive
4. Create a .txt file, open it with notepad and paste this line in it:
javaw.exe -jar getdown-pro.jar .
(the dot on the end is to stay there!)
5. Save it inside the spiral knights directory (i.e. that one which has uninstall.exe) as Play.bat
6. Doubleclick Play.bat
7. Enjoy
I can't warrant that it will work flawlessly though.
